Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

Thanks for the clarification, folks. This is all new to us & we know no one applying to an Ivy.

I wish we didn’t know immediately how much financial aid we’re getting. Let us have just one day to celebrate & bounce around that our son got in before the reality of not getting enough for him to actually enroll, crashes us down. We always knew that was a high probability. Just wanted that one or two days of bliss.

Did Princeton request a W-2 form and tax return forms for 2014?

@hrim1014 A lot of people got the email requesting this tax information. I received my first email regarding this on November 24th, others a little later around the first of December.

I think I’ve read this a few pages down, but Princeton didn’t send a confirmation that they’ve received the tax forms and w-2 statements after you sent them in (following the Dec. email), correct?

anyone read Justice Scalia’s comments at the Fisher hearing today? (about AA students needing to go to “slower” schools).

@lonelyowl I did not receive a confirmation email from fin aid office after submitting the requested 2014 tax info last week.

This message by @longdog is utterly confusing:

“I agree with @fretfulmother so it looks like @jasonmath @arcane25 @asappebble all got the weird incomplete message. Let’s see if their outcome is different from the rest of us. I’m not saying which way, just if it is different we can at least tell the 2021 peeps. Yep, @anon145, says checklist not available. I’m not seeing this notification on IvyWise.”

What is the “weird incomplete” message?

Doesn’t EVERYONE have the message saying the checklist is currently not available?

Does someone CURRENTLY HAVE a “weird incomplete” message, or was that something that was posted for less than 30 minutes and then disappeared, and now everyone has the same message?

If it was a temporary message that is now gone, then this has NO BENEFIT to anyone reading this thread in the future, and is highly confusing.

@PantherLair -

I believe what @longdog meant is that s/he agrees with me that the “weird/incomplete” temporary message may have had some inadvertent meaning. We all have the same message now about no checklist available.

The “weird/incomplete” temporary message seemed to imply something was missing but the applicants in question knew that nothing was missing. The rest of us had “your application is complete” messages. The temporary change likely meant that something was updated in the system [I believe, differently updated from the people who did NOT get that temporary message]. We don’t know if it was good or bad, however.*

I respectfully disagree with your statement: “If it was a temporary message that is now gone, then this has NO BENEFIT to anyone reading this thread in the future, and is highly confusing.”

We simply don’t know that yet. It is my guess that the temporary message appeared because something was updated (good or bad) but that someone realized the inadvertent hint (perhaps even reading this thread?!) and it was corrected for all applicants. An example might be, if deferred students are supposed to send in an “update” or accepted students are supposed to send in an “acceptance” or who knows what, and that kicked over to “something is missing” - what I think is UNlikely is that the temporary message meant an outright rejection, because then why would something be “missing”?

@lonelyowl You are right. They requested one tax form, I sent both. They sent a personal email acknowledging receipt. Then about a week or so later they asked for one of the tax forms again, and I gladly sent it a second time, and they did not acknowledge this last time. This communication was all with the financial aid department.

Wow, @PantherLair, so sorry my post obviously upset you. Thank you @fretfulmother I was responding to your post 783. It was clear to me your thought process in 783, but maybe not to others. Thanks for the longer explanation in post 807, so no one misunderstands.

Sometimes I think that getting in is basically just a coin flip, except for athletes, legacies, and super unqualified people. So, we all technically have a 50% shot. I’ll go with tails.

there’s obviously a very high level of anxiety here, and people are looking for “clues” everywhere, but I’m just trying to understand it all, and trying to make a “record” for future readers.

@longdog - you didn’t upset me at all! Sorry you feel that way – I’m just trying to figure out what you guys are talking about
@fretfulmother - no, I still don’t understand. Are you saying that every single person on this board was looking at their PU portal for hours and hours continuously, and that we can confirm that NO ONE else received that temporary message? If not (and of course not), then how can we possibly draw any conclusions about that temporary message?

Or, was the message not temporary? Is it still up? I’m literally so confused by this thread, and i’m sure it’ll be very confusing for future readers as well. If we can’t know we all received that temporary message (or not), then it is impossible to draw any inferences from the fact that a few people saw the message pop up temporarily on their portals.

Hopefully that’s clear – and don’t worry, i’m not upset with ANY of you!!! All friends here!!

I have a random question but does anyone know what the benefits are for a child of an employee?

^admission-wise, not tuition

the lady on the phone told me that we will get an email “one week prior to the decision date” so that means (unless we get an email tonight, which i doubt) D-Day is 12/17 or later

@Almondjoy7 @morrisk Thank you guys! I’m pretty sure that both of you guys would do amazing at Princeton too, so I’m crossing my fingers for you as well.

@PantherLair we don’t know full data for the temporary notice, no. But we have a collection of data with some statuses known and recorded at the same time, of which about three(?) were the “incomplete” message.

It would really suck if the decision date was pushed back beyond the 16th…

@fretfulmother But how accurate can that be? I’m sure others might’ve had that, but they didn’t check it in time and it changed. I think we’re just grasping at straws here waiting for the decisions to come out. Then again, I could be wrong. But 3 people isn’t a large enough group to signify anything really.

@meaa7130 You could be right, but I want to see what, if anything, our correlations are.
