Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@PantherLair I think @fretfulmother was referencing the comment made by @JasonMath in Post #740. At around 6:30 PM EST last night, the portal had a temporary “glitch” in which there were two different messages that were released. Some applicants logged in to see a message that stated “Princeton has received some but not all of the required pieces of your application. Items not yet received are listed on this page. Please do your best to make sure we receive the missing item(s) as soon as possible.” However, these applicants had no missing items. We know that @JasonMath, @arcane25, and @asappebble got this message. Other applicants logged in to see the previous, unchanged message that stated “The Princeton Admission Office has received all the required pieces of your application. Your application is complete.” I think the conversation regarding this is pretty much a “search” for clues regarding whether or not the message that was temporarily uploaded last night has any relationship to the final decision. We can’t really know much about it though, since Princeton removed the “glitch” rather quickly and replaced it with the “checklist not available” message that we see now, so not everyone got a chance to view it. What we do know, however, is that last night Princeton was messing around with our portals for some reason.

@CautiousOptimist It’s a tradition for Princeton to shut down the checklist a week before decisions; many believe that it is just a way for them to increase the suspense of the situation, but I think that they may be editing our portals to reflect our decisions under this innocent “curtain” of text. I’m almost certain that Princeton is nearly done with the decision making process, and that most of our fates are already sealed. The admissions officers will use these final days to update their databases, calculate some stats, package decision envelopes, write out personalized letters to the accepted, ponder over the last few applicants remaining, etc. (Perhaps they print out deferral letters as well, but I do not know if Princeton is a school that doesn’t send deferral letters unless they are requested.)

@SmartAlec I do not know if she meant exactly one week, or just a rough approximation of one week (I think it might just be an estimation since she probably stated it off the top of her head). However, I do know that the checklist gets deactivated around one week before decisions, so I believe that the release date will either be 12/16 or 12/17. It’s later than all the other ivies, so you’ll know the decisions of everyone else applying before you receive your own… that’s kind of scary. :stuck_out_tongue:

@lonelyowl No, Princeton hasn’t given me confirmation on my tax forms yet. It is unnerving that the school hasn’t replied yet given that we are so close to the decision release. They usually send a confirmation reply as well, so I’m fearing that I may have been already deferred. Has anyone else received a confirmation yet? :frowning:

@meaa7130 It would be funnier if the deferral/rejection letter said, “Thanks for the $65.” :stuck_out_tongue:

Accidentally double posted! Sorry about that.

Just so that this comment slot isn’t wasted, how do you guys plan to view your decisions on decision day? I’m probably going to close the door to my room, log on to my portal, close my eyes, and place a book or something over the screen and slowly raise it up until I see my decision. I know people say that it’s better to go in fast than to go in slowly, but for something as important as my first college decision, I don’t want the nasty surprise to come to me all at once… that would be pretty bad.

Then again, it’s a school night so I’ll probably do my homework first or something. I’m probably going to go into CC hibernation on Friday or something to prepare myself for the big moment.

@azwu331 I was thinking about that too!! But I think I’m just gonna do it all in one surprise–whatever will be, will be. I’m just not sure if I’m gonna be able to bring myself to read the rest of the letter if I don’t see an orange tiger pop up, even if it is a deferral.

Just so you guys know, it may seem like they would notify us a week before, but harvard’s results come out tomorrow and they only notified people 2 days before the date. Most schools stick to their usual relative dates (Harvard thurs, princeton monday), and if there were more applicants, they would have known that since november and schedule accordingly. They are most likely still going to release results on monday as most schools stick to the same relative day of week each year.

I got an email back from the Undergrad financial aid office, but it was only because I had two pages missing from the tax return @azwu331

@azwu331 Thanks for explaining the situation to everyone again, your summary is far more comprehensive than what anyone will get looking at the disjointed posts we made a few pages ago. I’m going to assume it means nothing and was perhaps an unexpected consequence of them shutting down the checklist. As for the “suspense” of it, unless their only goal was to get CC buzzing about it or otherwise just stir the pot, it doesn’t really say a lot more than it did previously. But I suppose given the impact it had here, they certainly succeeded in toying with us.

I also have not received any confirmation about the tax documents.

As for reading my def–I mean–decision, (self-deprecating humor I hope may help me cope with the sting) I plan to make a playlist each for deferral and rejection. Whichever one I end up needing will probably be on continuous rotation for a while, since if I get in I’m going to be super excited and will want to celebrate, and if I don’t I’ll need something to push me across the finish line as I polish my remaining supplements. I probably won’t be able to stop myself from looking as soon as they’re available, though.

@meaa7130 “But how accurate can that be? I’m sure others might’ve had that, but they didn’t check it in time and it changed. I think we’re just grasping at straws here waiting for the decisions to come out. Then again, I could be wrong. But 3 people isn’t a large enough group to signify anything really.”
^^^EXACTLY!^^^
Moreover - there could have been others on this thread who also received this temp message but didn’t even know it was there –
Do you think everyone obsessively checks their portal every hour?

I would caution future readers of this thread NOT to draw any “correlations” based on a temp portal message.

I received an email confirming receipt of tax documents on December 7 after sending the docs on December 3. Did anyone else receive an email from PFAA?

@APrincetonian - I don’t think anyone else got a confirmation, but for sure we did not. Was this for 2014 tax forms and W2s?

Today my daughter’s queue has also changed to “The Princeton Admission Office has received your application. Checklist information is currently not available. The checklist information will be available to applicants between September 01, 2015 and December 09, 2015.” Yesterday’s message was “complete”.

I’m usually a lurker, but maybe this link will help calm nerves.

@Princetonian2020 do you think the fact that they read your tax return and found two pages missing mean anything?

Guidance counselor says next Friday the 18th at the earliest

@Nova79 How does he/she know?

@fretfulmother Yes, I sent the forms as a response to the (in)famous December 2 email. They were 2014 W-2s and tax returns.

Do QuestBridge early action applicants find out their decisions earlier than the other early applicants?

@Hope4567 Yep, they found out Dec. 1st

@meaa7130 The associate dean of admissions called her and told her that Princeton is really behind in submitting student reports.

Hi guys! I’m from the Penn thread and I wish all of you the best of luck! I know this whole process has been incredibly stressful for all of us, but all you guys are awesome and amazingly qualified people! I hope you all get in!

@Nova79 That makes my heart hurt. =((

Also, who else received/did not receive confirmation about the tax form? I’m going to start a little poll.

Like: did not receive confirmation
Helpful: did receive confirmation
