My interviewer just emailed me, and she offered to have the interview either at my house or a nearby cafe. At first I thought it would be best to do it at a cafe because I'd be more comfortable there, but now I'm starting to wonder if I should do it at my house...I live in a very rural area (my family has a barn, a tractor, etc.) and I think it might be good to show a little bit of my background. And it might be more memorable for her. But still, I'm worried about having it my house...I'm scared that would be awkward. What do you all think?

I don’t think it will matter. If you’d be more comfortable at a cafe, do it there. These interviews aren’t very important. Just try to relax and be yourself.

Good luck.

Regarding the importance (or lack thereof) of interviews, how do we * know * that they’re not that important? I’m not disagreeing with you, because I’ve always heard the same thing…I’m just wondering.

And thanks :)

I think you should probably just go with the cafe, because it’s what the interviewer will be used to, plus it’s a nuetral setting

The interviews are conducted by alumni volunteers. They’re not professional interviewers or admissions officers, and their impressions are very subjective. The adcoms know this, so they don’t rely heavily on interview reports in making their admissions decisions.

My interview will take place at my interviewer’s office (he’s an investment banker).

Thanks to everyone who has responded Does anyone else have any comments on the location?

Has everyone been contacted for an interview? I haven’t heard anything.

Got my notice yesterday.

Sent in my application on the 29th, got a notification on the 2nd, and I just had my interview at a coffee shop today.

It was actually more like a conversation. We talked about my EC’s and the awesomeness of Princeton.

Got contacted! my interview’s at a diner haaaaa…im not worried about the interview itself, but do i order food? it’d be weird not to order anything, right? maybe just a drink? blah to order or not to order that is the question…

I sent my application the 31st and I’m yet to be contacted for an interview. Do pretty much all competitive candidates get one?

I agree with those who say to conduct the interview where you will feel the most comfortable. At the end it’s how you act that will leave the biggest impression.

@PMCM: I haven’t been contacted yet either, but I think all applicants get one, if there are alumni in the area. Not getting one is no indication as to the strength of your application.

Princeton tries to interview every single applicant so hang in there. It’s probably because you submitted your application later than other people or maybe that you live in an area with fewer alums. My son was contacted a day or two after he submitted but we live in a large city.

He did his interview at a Starbucks somewhat close to our home.

PMCM: receiving an interview is not based on your competitiveness but rather the availability of alumni volunteers. You may never get called. The zero-chance applicant in another area my already have been interviewed.

Applications aren’t pre-sorted and the top candidates offered interviews. That’s just not how it works.

I got my SCEA app in before Halloween and the Princeton website has listed it as complete, with everything in. But still haven’t heard anything about an interview. I know they’re done by alumni and we are in a semi-rural southern area, so it’s possible there aren’t any alum around. But I do worry it will hurt my chance if I don’t interview. Is there any way to find out if there is an interviewing alum in my area, or do I just wait to hear (hopefully)

I submitted everything on Oct 25 and still haven’t gotten an interview notification. I know other people who live near me who have already had their Princeton interview…is this a cause for worry? Should I call up the admissions office and ask them about it? Also, how do you get an interview notification - email, cell #, home #?

Mallikav: You get it by email. If you have not already, call the admissions office. I bet that the reports the alumni would submit to princeton are due soon, and waiting too long will probably just deprive you of an interview.

How likely is it that there would be an alum to do an interview near Heidelberg, Germany? If nobody is there, would it be done by Skype or phone?
