Princeton University Class of 2022 SCEA Applicants Thread

I think NJDude23 might have been playing with our minds a little. Don’t worry about it; there’s only 18 hours left!

I wrote this to my son (two years ago, he is class of 2020) the night before SCEA decisions were announced (it was partially based on letters written by other parents to their students). I share it with you tonight in the hopes you will be able to have good nights sleep.

It is kind of funny since right after I wrote it, I forwarded it to his mom and said we better prepare for a commiseration dinner since at best he’ll get deferred. As it turns out, he got lucky.

I hope it brings you similar luck, and if not, provides some small reassurance…

Best of luck to you all. And please remember that although this may seem like a life and death issue, it does not define you, unless you let it. Don’t make that mistake. Instead, promise yourself you will succeed wherever you end up.

Cheers,
Psy

@psywar Thanks for the letter, good to have a reminder that in the end its just college. Oh and thank you motivating me earlier, you commented on my chance me post long ago. Crazy how much support the College Confidential community gives, didn’t expect that when I signed up.

I was able to calculate through Harvard press releases that, from last year to this year, the early action applicant pool only increased by 2.42%. Of course, this doesn’t mean anything in particular about Princeton, but my guess is that this would be comparable. Maybe EA had a huge growth two years ago, but roughly the same amount of people apply now? IDK, thought it was interesting to see; maybe it means Princeton will stay about the same too.

when we log into the portal tomorrow will the decision automatically pop up or do we have click something after we log in… lol just want to prepare myself

@idekanymore1 I’m pretty sure there will be a view status update or view decision button to click on to see the decision.

@mediokra Hmm that’s interesting. Maybe people got discouraged by the record low acceptance rates from last year across pretty much all the Ivies.

@mediokra Also should be noted that Yale got a 13% increase in early applications :/, perhaps due to an increased number of seats (slightly), or due to outreach, but the fact is that it’s a pretty sizable increase (~700 people)

If any of y’all feel dumb, know that I exist. I submitted an EA decision (non-binding) to a rando private school like five months ago. At the time, I didn’t know it was EA and just assumed it was “normal” so fast forward to two months later I REA to Princeton. I JUST realized that this will nullify my REA to Princeton since you’re not allowed to EA to any other private school (non-binding and binding alike). Of course I realize it the day before admissions but guess that will ease the pain tmrw significantly. I dunno how I missed that the past several months. Rip in pepperonies to me lol.

Good luck to all of y’all.

I’m rooting for you @GoldenBunny :))

I can’t sleep! I try to get my mind to chill, but it keeps wandering thinking about the “what-ifs”

@roboticsismylife same!! I really don’t know how I will focus tomorrow at school lol

sameeee tomorrow is going to be a long day at school @roboticsismylife :((

I have a calc test I should be studying for, and an MIT interview tomorrow but ahhh the anxiety. Any ideas on how to calm myself? I tried watching the news for a bit but of course the whole Moore situation has me worked up again

@roboticsismylife watch the office, bake cookies, go for a run ??

lol exercise no thanks. maybe the former 2

@ShadowSaber oh wow, that’s a large increase! Okay, so my theory didn’t pan out really. :)) Guess we won’t know anything about Princeton’s EA til tomorrow!

@roboticsismylife even though this is totally non-topical, as a potential/hopeful Woody Woo concentration, the Moore-Jones race has me on my the edge of my seat. Not only is it crazy that a Dem is that close to a Rep in ALABAMA, but also the whole, y’know, child molestation thing. And the fact that he’s still in the lead. @-)

UPDATE: Jones is actually now in the lead (by a VERY SLIM margin). Yeah, I’m not going to sleep tonight for two reasons.

@mediaokra, looks like some sources like AP are announcing Jones has won, based on 92% of the votes.

Update: NY times follows, headlining that Jones has won.

Yup - most large news networks are claiming Jones won!!

28 more hours now…

Yes, unless something shifty happened/happens, Doug Jones has won with 99+% reporting. Don’t want to get too political, but now at least one thing has been lifted off my mind. Now Princeton is absorbing my every thought. :))
