Princeton University Class of 2022 SCEA Applicants Thread

@calculess I’m not sure, but my school has 4 classes a semester and we change classes for second semester. We get progress reports at the 6-week and 12-week time periods and then final grades.

I also did not receive a request for first quarter grades, but this thread is from someone who did questbridge this year and received the request. They ended up getting matched to Princeton.

http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/2033456-what-does-a-request-of-first-quarter-grades-mean.html

How do you guys know if Princeton requested Q1 grades? Did you counselor personally contact you to tell you, or…? I very well could have received a request, but because I rarely talk to my college counselors, I would have no idea that they even requested it.

If I end up finding out I didn’t receive a request, should I have my counselor send it anyways? Thanks!

@SamuelChurro my counselor personally told me. I’m sure you can just ask your counselor/counseling department if they’ve received a request. I think you should send your grades if they’re good and will support you, but if not, there’s probably no need to send them if Princeton hasn’t asked.

I know applicants speculate every year what it means to have first quarter grades requested lol. From previous threads, every applicant whose first quarter grades were requested was accepted (unless my search wasn’t thorough).

@HelloThereHola Were there people who weren’t asked for first quarter grades, but were still accepted?

@Amduseus Of course! I just went through the SCEA threads from the last two years and searched “first quarter grades” lol

@HelloThereHola I did the exact same thing a while ago haha. I believe I did see one person who got a request and was deferred, but I’m not sure. But it’s impossible to figure out the admissions process, so we’ll see in a week I guess. Hopefully those of us who got a request for Q1 grades can post our decisions so we have more data for future applicants lol

To whoever said that first quarter grades would be used to decide accept v defer… I’m not sure if I buy that. All those essays, all those letters of rec, all the ECs, etc etc… I doubt one quarter of grades would be the end all be all difference for such a selective and prestigious school. Just my thought.

We also can’t forget that many high schools operate differently and don’t have standard quarter grades. Only time will tell I guess.

i just wish we had an exact date by now! oh well! hopefully soon, I’m sure they know what they’re doing lol

@university2022 I was speculating if they used that information to tip the scales. I would think that if they had their minds made up, they wouldn’t specifically request that information if it is as insignificant as it might seem.

Still, it was only speculation. Who knows why they would want Q1 grades with all of the other information they have?

Probably to complete the application… I’m not sure, I’m not an admissions counselor. I would think it may have more to do with defer/deny… Would it ever be fair to use Q1 as a deciding factor when some schools won’t even release those grades?

@calculess I saw the same person who got deferred but they said they got a B in Chemistry when the rest of the years had all As so maybe that’s why

@university2022 I agree with you about it not being the deciding factor. But not about being defer/deny. There is a correlation between receiving the Q1 request and getting accepted, but of course it is not guaranteed.

@university2022 yeah, haha, who knows? Like I said previously, this all is probably nothing, but it gives us all something to ruminate on while we wait.

@HelloThereHola then since that student had lower grades than typical and still got deferred, that makes me think that Q1 grades are used to help decide bw accept/defer.

That is to say that some students who were not asked are not necessarily instantly deferred or denied. In fact, it could mean that they were so outstanding that the admissions office automatically accepted them!

Is there another way besides asking my counselor to see if Princeton had requested my Q1 grades? Would it say “Q1 grades received” on the application portal or something?

@sbaa123 Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s any other way

Do we think its a good sign if the counselors were asked for Q1 grades? I was trying to look, but did most people who got asked about the grades last year get in?

@HolaHola2 I looked through some past forms, and I couldn’t find enough of a correlation either way. So, I guess it is unfortunately inconclusive.
