Well, this has been a lively discussion. So has anyone sent a Letter of Interest yet? Or are y’all gonna wait. Also, @Pianomonster20 my school is also on the quarter system. I still need to ask my counsellor to see the difference between Q1 and midyear tho…
I dont know if we are supposed to send letters of not.
There doesnt seem to be a definitive answer. But if someone knows better, please speak up.
Lol I’m too lazy to ask my guidance counselor because she isn’t super helpful (like not helpful at all) I’m in an awkward position with letter of intent tho bc idk if Princeton’s my top. At this moment it’s not but idk if that would change so I don’t want to tell them they’re my top choice when they may or may not be. (It kinda changes on my mood. Or maybe I’m just telling myself that I won’t fit in at Princeton idk) so I’m kinda just going to tell them that they’re one of my top and not have to make a statement and stand by it or else ruin stuff for kids after me from my school. (Doesn’t help that Princeton hasn’t accepted anyone from my school in at least the past 3 years except for the girl in my grades who’s recruited)
So from my research, it doesn’t seem to hurt to send a Letter of Interest. @Pianomonster20 lol I can kinda relate. I’d send one anyway; although the P might not be a first choice, it’s still a damn good school. It’s never bad if you get in
So, do you know if we are just supposed to upload it through the Portal? Or do we tell our guidance counselor to attach it when they send in our mid-year report?
I have heard that you should tell you guidance counselor about any progress you have made in research or any awards you have won because then s/he can just attach it to your mid-year, but im not sure if one should do the same for a Letter of Interest.
DId they give outright NOs also?
Hmmm… So I sent an email addressed to the Admission Director as seen on the Update page, but I have to say that I haven’t gotten a reply, possibly because they are busy doing stuff. I have heard of uploading through the Portal, but I think it has a similar effect.
As to achievement updates, I would do it personally, instead of just tacking it onto a mid-year report. It would seem more personal and interested.
I don’t know why Princeton defers so many applicants. Three years ago they deferred 79%. It is probably a tad lower now but still… why? An outright rejection seems better. Now applicants have to contend with letters of interest/enthusiasm. If @skieurope is right when he says that acceptance rate for deferred is lower than RD, then why bother? Maybe Princeton should reject more and make deferrals mean something.
So are you uploading stuff to the portal or emailing them updates/Letter of Interest?
Also, does anyone know what the deadline is for submitting mid-year reports?
@18YearsASlav I emailed them. Also, I do not think that there IS a deadline for mid-year. ASAP is best tho.
@letour I completely agree! Now I have absolutely no idea where I stand.
what email do we send LOI to? to make it personal @PF09_Recon
I sent it to the Dean of Admissions… I don’t have comprehensive evidence, but I think it’s perhaps the most personal.
Tried to call the Admissions office today, got put on hold and then a speaker phone. Will try again later.
I would urge against sending it to the dean of admissions, especially if its just another email because I can’t imagine you are the only one to have sent it there and because of that I doubt the dean spends anytime looking at them.
That is true… Well honestly if you applied to SCEA, they know they are your first choice anyways.
My D was deferred last year and got in via RD. I believe it was in mid-February that she sent a LOI/update. She had updated information so she sent it to all the schools that she was still interested in attending. For some schools she either knew or found out the AO for her area/school and sent it to him/her or to the General email address for admissions if that info couldn’t be found. She did get a reply from every school though.
Agreed. Follow Princeton’s directions (emphasis mine:)
Oh jeez well I guess my counsellor wasn’t much help… Thanks for the tips tho!
Hopefully, mine was just drowned in the sea of emails, so they won’t notice. I will send an update in February; that sounds like a way better idea.
