Princeton Waitlist 2017

if he/she is in seoul, south korea as her username suggests, then it would have been midnight there at the time she posted above

Thanks, everyone! The Assistant Director of Admissions called the first time 11PM (in my time in Seoul Korea… so it was around 10AM in NJ, I think?), but I missed the call. She called again exactly an hour later to break me the news :)

I’m Asian/Korean female and valedictorian, planning to major in economics. My ECs are pretty typical - but I did show my huge passion for creating writing and musicals in my application. I’m also from a military family and go to a DoDDS school.

And as for any letters that I sent to Princeton, I sent one during the first ten days of May. It probably reached there about two weeks later because I’m international. It was one-paged, rather concise, and I sent it once.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the thorough answer! You sound like a really interesting person with a compelling background story, no wonder they took you off the waitlist!

Well, guys. I somehow managed to get accepted off the waitlist. I gotta say, I’m really surprised considering I didn’t send any extra info. Honestly, I don’t know how I got in. Still debating though… We’ll see with the financial aid!

silveralpaca CONGRATS too!!!

Seoul123 CONGRATS again!

-- go girl power!! :-)

do you guys think they will let more people off?

chlory: I’m honestly not sure. But unless you get an email, I don’t think they’ve closed the waitlist yet! They literally called my counselors this morning to ask for some last minute info before they made decisions!

Good luck to everyone else!!!

I’m flattered, ORE!

I sincerely wish all of you luck.

silveralpaca123 – If i may ask, which other school are you “still debating” about Vs Princeton? I assume you had your deposit in somewhere else already and have been getting all set for that so i undertsnd how it can now be a tough choice to switch gears!

I am sure it will all work out perfectly! Still it is an exciting position to be in now CONGRATS :-)

haha wow definitely girl power (asian girl power too)

silveralpaca: What was the last minute info they asked your counselors?

PrincetonHappy: I’m debating against Carleton. Although I’m sure that I’ll have better academic opportunities at Princeton, I’m just wondering how I’ll fit in socially, as a middle-class Asian girl from the Midwest, you know? But as of an hour ago (after a lovely call from a friend’s mom, a P-ton alum), I’m leaning Princeton!

ORE: They just asked about my final report from my counselor. It wasn’t anything life-changing, but apparently my counselor gushed about me, so that might have helped!

Oh, like grades and stuff? Or was it basically like a verbal recommendation on qualitative stuff? Did your final semester at school end already?

You know how schools require a final report after your last semester? It was basically that. I don’t know what even goes in the report, but that was it. Today was actually the last day of school, so kind of?

The reason why she said those lovely things about me was because she was stalling and couldn’t get the computer to load, though I like to think that she would have said nice things about me anyhow :)

Ahh I see. Wow Princeton hit the dot on that one with you knowing it was the last day of school!

Just to add onto silveralpaca - I met up with my counselor just hours ago, and she admitted that Princeton requested my final transcript earlier in the week (through email, I believe); she kept it a secret because she didn’t want to get my hopes up. I hope this info helps.

So it seems these trickling few acceptances off the wait list are due to that mini “summer melt” in that a handful of accepted people are deferring or the like, right?

yes that is correct

I got off the waitlist too :’) they called me earlier today around noon! I applied SCEA and was deferred, and then Wait List

Congrats! From your previous posts, you’re an international student right? You’re going to have a great time in the states for sure!

Also, did you send in any letters/updates? If so, when and how many?
