For the sake of many of us who are now trapped in this agonizing state of limbo, may the more knowledgeable members of CC please give some general advice/information on how to proceed from here.
Wait listed as well. I fully expected a rejection and now that I am wait listed, I feel like I have a chance after all, haha! Though wait list seems normally crueler than direct acceptance/rejection.
The thread from last year may provide some helpful tips:

The waitlist waiting period is just so insane. Months of waiting just to wait for another month+ at the least. But it’s better than a rejection to me if it means I still have a chance.
Hey, guys! Does anyone know when we should send a letter in stating our interest in attending? Also, to whom should we send the letter–our regional admissions counselor? Thanks!
You should definitely send a letter to your regional admissions counselor reaffirming your interest:) Anyone has some wait-list statistics?
@axxaaa Looks like it varies too much to tell with any level of accuracy, sadly. The number of people accepting spots on the waitlist in recent years has hovered around 1000 +/- 200, but the number of people accepted has fluctuated from 0 to 164. 0 is the obvious mode, but the 2010 stats from http://www.admissionsconsultants.com/college/waitlist_table.asp show that relatively high acceptance rates are possible.

According to the DP, 1207 students were offered a spot on the waitlist, which is much less than the 2010 number, but apparently a 5.8% increase from last year. With a realistic waitlist offer yield of 70%, there should be around 845 of us.

The “target” class last year was 1308 (Princeton tends to purposely underestimate), but the school ended up getting an enrollment of 1314. Another 35 were added in through the Bridge Program, and even then the school added another ~30 students off of the waitlist (and we also learn that 33 were accepted off the waitlist 2 years ago). With an expected class size of 1310 this year (taken from the first DP link), I think we MIGHT be able to expect a 30-ish number again, if the yield rate holds true to recent history.
It’s all guesswork though, lol.
Did you guys called the Admissions Office to find out where to send the letters to? I don’t know who my regional admissions officer is.
The Admissions Office does not have regional representatives.
Further, as it wrote us in the FAQ document, one should not send further information at all, unless it is “late breaking news.”
Good luck to you all.
@ahawkins wow, even then it would mean only 2% would get off the wait list, so 98% of people on the wait list wouldn’t get off. That’s pretty tough. I sincerely wish you all the best of luck and I would really love to see you on campus!!!
@Homeless2Harvard (or 2Princeton now? Congrats btw!) Thanks! Going to need all the luck I can get with those odds. I’m happy with the schools I got into though. Good luck to everyone else on the WL!
so does it look like they’re going to the wait-list this year??
They will not know if they are going to the wait list or not until after the candidate reply date which is May 1.
3 at my kid’s school turned down Princeton yesterday. One went to Columbia, one to MIT, and one to Stanford.
@bordertexan Wow, that made me feel so hopeful now. I just sent in my letter, hopefully that wasn’t too late.
I wouldn’t get your hopes up too high. Remember that most of the people on the waitlist will be rejected. Princeton has a class about about 1310 and they accepted over 1900 students so 600 of those students would have a reject first to have the perfect amount. Then after that, if more people reject, that’s when they use waitlist. You should commit to your other college so that way you get a pleasant surprise rather than a sad rejection :).
I’m also on the waitlist and I’m committed to Syracuse University too
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
If anyone gets in, let us know!
Are they going to the waitlist this year? Does anyone know?
I’ve constantly been checking the Princeton website for any new updates but haven’t found any. After May 1st, they need time to figure out who decided to enroll and then calculate how many more spots (if there is any) to take off the waitlist. Since the admissions staff goes through the process of looking through everyone’s application each time there’s a spot open, it’ll be a long process. I think if there are spots, Princeton will probably announce them starting May 8, that should give them plenty of time to decide who is best suited, but that’s just my guess from what I’ve heard. BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE
PS- if you are thinking of emailing the admissions office about how many spots are on the waitlist, you might want to hold off on that. It’s the busiest time of the year for the admissions staff and you don’t want to be pestering them since they seem to save all our emails into our folder. Everything I’ve emailed including question they have on file…
Just wondering, what do people generally mean when they say “breaking news”, very important awards, etc? Does that mean only national/international level awards/achievements?
@fairyfantasy I updated them about a national level award and also a regional award. I also included a paragraph reaffirming Princeton as my first choice!
