I was hoping for closure, but all I got were waitlists, so I’d figure I’d start this thread for discussion. Does anyone know how many students Princeton waitlists and what their acceptance rate from the waitlist is?
Waitlisted as well. Would like to know more. Thanks!
@realityhitshard @pbchohulk waitlist is pretty slim odds compared to RD admission.
You can find the stats in the Princeton Common Dataset (https://registrar.princeton.edu/university_enrollment_sta/CDS_2016-2017.pdf)
Section C2
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list
1237
Number accepting a place on the waiting list
840
Number of wait-listed students admitted
18
So 2%.
In 2016, a few, very lucky students were offered admission in late May and waitlist rejections letter we sent early July.
Good luck.
Waitlisted also
When are you guys planning on sending your letter of continued interest? And are you going to send updated transcripts along with it?
What’s a letter of continued interest? What’s its purpose?
Google is your friend @CrystalRose7
would it be wise to post and compare our own stats to gauge our odds?
EDIT: i’m likely sending my letter of continued interest next week or the week after, i didn’t want to be too hasty about it for worry of annoying the admissions staff
waitlisted… also in harvard, MIT and Stanford…
Has any international student ever been off waitlist from Princeton?
Waitlisted as well! Anyone know if there’s any way to increase odds of getting accepted from the waitlist? Like, will accomplishing something relatively impressive between now and May 1st help?
i’m not sure how much of it is a matter of making yourself a more interesting applicant or how much of it is if you’re the applicant that they need, if that makes sense? but ultimately i’d say, do your best to participate in competitions if you can, keep your grades up, and make sure you get in your loci
@blairebabe since the waitlist is usually used to fill in the strategic gaps for having a well rounded class, I don’t think there is much you can do. If they need a Midwest engineer or poet from Maine to compete their class, they can find in it the waitlist.
Just increasing your scores or GPA will not be enough imo, as they have already turned down plenty of kids with perfect scores and grades.
If your publish something in a national / international journal, win a national event, finish a research project or your amazing patent gets approved, that might move the needle a little.
You have a 2% chance of getting in off the waitlist, so I’d make other plans and let yourself be pleasantly surprised if you happen to get the 8 or so slots.

are they going to check your second semester grades?
Hi!
My counselor really wants to advocate my candidacy by sending a statement through email.
I’ve read that sending in something like this might even prove harmful for Princeton waitlist
Should I politely decline the offer or let him go through with it?
The letter from Princeton says only to send “late-breaking news.” I plan on letting them know of a few recent publications and awards, but in this update can I reiterate that Princeton is my first choice and if accepted I will attend? I know people suggest mentioning this in LOCI, but since Princeton doesn’t want LOCI would it be alright?
who did u guys send to?
I uploaded mine on the portal.
Any info on how many people Princeton will take off the waitlist this year?
@ke7anlannister from what I understand, they won’t even know until after May 1, and then perhaps later in May if more spots open up due to “summer melt”
