Princeton's Unique Application Process

How would you best describe Princeton' application? How does it differ from the others? For example, I know Stanford puts a little bit more emphasis on the essays and personal qualities than on say EC(it doesn't let you describe them in great lenghts).

Also, how is the fin. aid for Princeton ED?

Thanks!

Princeton has the BEST financial aid, period.

try their early estimator.

as for admission, I really don't know.

Good question, actually. Anyone else out there know?

Doesn't Princeton use the common applciation?

Princeton accepts the common app with their supplement, but they have their own app too.

I meant more along the lines of what they stress. Stanford, for example, follows its entrepreneurial nature and looks for uniqueness as reflected in essays. Does Princeton have any similar focus?

I'd say creativity

How do they measure that? Essays?

PLEASE SAY NO

Essays and EC's....how else are they going that?

going to measure that*?

If your app makes it to the second round of evaluation (your SAT is over 1400, you have some high 700's in SAT II and you have decent AP results you will get a thorough reading. Each reader reads about 1000 apps a piece. With so many kids boasting high test scores the quality of the rest of the application really comes into play. The two short essays for Princeton are very important as is the Personal Statement. The supplemental art form is also a big deal maker if your talent in one particular field is outstanding. They look at the whole package but you need a "boot dagger" to get you noticed.

I recently finished completing my Pton app. and all I can say is I actually enjoyed it. Only Pton would ask you what your favourite movie was, and so on. Also the supplement was a nice colour. Orange happens to be my favourite colour so I was, quite frankly, on top of the world. Also, the Pton app. let's you write so much. I lvoed the "What Else" page. It was a God send. I applied using the paper common app. and the supplement. I am an a bit of a luddite so the internet was a no go for me to begin with.

May I ask a problem here? :-)

Are there many mathematics in the committee? I mean, if my application forms spend lots of words telling math ideas, will there be some mathematician who can recognize and value that?

Yes, Princeton will recognize a strong mathematics application. It also receives many of those, so the competition is quite intense.

annandale1, I think Harvard will beat anybody's finaid when push comes to shove.

A few things:

Zuma: That made no sense in this thread...

nopoisonivy: How many people total, approximately, make it to the second round of evaluations of which you spoke?

anyone: I'm finishing up my list of activities, and for on of them, I was the first sophomore ever to make the A-Team. Should I put that? How can I put that without seeming like the most obnoxious braggart?

anyone: I live pretty close by to Princeton (20-30 mins drive), and haven't formally gone for an overnight Princeton visit. Will this count against me? Does display of interest matter in the ED round? I really love Princeton, but I don't know if the university knows that.

cautiousp... Apply ED. Nothing says you are in love with a school like a binding ED application. They don't consider campus visits or for that matter Alumni interviews (there just isn't enough time). ED at Pton has a big advantage.

So about how many of the applications % makes it to the second round? How many rounds are there?

There is a process of elimination that has to take place due to the shear number of applications. If you get passed the first cut and your app doesn't go to the round file you are in the so called second round. There is no exact percentage of course but your application might be read by another reader or now go to committee.

CP....I would urge you to go to West College just for the chance of talking to someone in admissions. They will certainly jot you down:)
Visiting is certainly a plus.

Thanks nopoisonivy. Not too late, though, is it?
