Any need to bring own printer to duke?

im gonna bring one and a laptop..i think its just more convenient than going to a comp lab everytime u need to print something. Its worth the investment

I had one and I think it was sooo worth the investment.
Granted, for huge files (like frequent 20+ page poli sci printouts) I'd print them in the library, but for everything else, I couldn't live without my printer. I thought mine was very handy (but also because it was one of those combined copier/scanner things-- so it certainly got a lot of use one way or another)

wait, so printing is Free???

yeah, you can print for free on campus... still, if I had the money, I would get my own printer. Unfortunately, getting my computer and digital camera wiped me out, and no one around here wants to employ a person who can't work nights and is leaving for college on August 16th. Oh well... such is life

The OIT computer lab is at the corner of my dorm last year, so I took full advantage of it (free black and white printing, unlimited quantity)...

There is a program called "e print" which allows you to print from your computer. All you need to do is slide your duke card at one of the computer labs to collect your print out.

i bought a printer and, after 2 weeks, disconnected it for some more desk space. since the brown computer lab was right next to the mp/on the way to the bus stop from bassett, it was no problem using the printers there. or i'd just print stuff out at perkins over on west, easily accessible.

eprint is a little client you download from oit's site so that when you print, it'll sit on the server for 12 hours until you swipe your duke card. now, you can't beat a gigantic HP laser printer that prints double sided, multiple pages on a page, and super fast. the paper/weight/space i saved by using eprint was incredible. 100 pages of documents, 2 on a page double spaced in 25 pages? it's a beautiful thing.

plus it's FREE and UNLIMITED, unlike many schools.

also, if you want color laser printing, it's 50 cents. and copies are about .07 cents each, off of your flex.

Whats the closest E-Print Station to Giles?

i'll bring my (big and noisey) printer from late 90s just in a case.

Lilly Library. Brown has one also.

Is there also one in Carr?

Yup, forgot about Carr. http://www.oit.duke.edu/ats/labs/index.html

Whats the closest E-Print Station to Pegram????

either the brown computer lab or lilly library is the closest to pegram... it's not bad, whenever i needed to eprint something (i was in pegram), i'd get it after dinner (brown lab is right next to the marketplace) or on my way to the dorm or bus stop.

I've made do for 3 years without one, however sometimes I wish I had one just for when I'm printing like a single page... But yeah you'll be fine without one.
