printers in dorm rooms?

I can read that there is printer availability at The Commons..but don't most people want a printer to share per room? comments welcomed! ...I have an 18 inch by18 by 10 inch printer to hand off for son's room that is very multifunctional..but you can buy much smaller simpler ones...Is it important to have a very compact printer?

time's a flyin.

I thought a printer was definitely helpful to have in the room since I would be up late writing papers and basically I was too lazy to feel like going to Commons all the time haha Plus, there was only one printer and once or twice i had to wait. Printing on campus is actually much more cost effective because ink cartridges can be pretty expensive. However, the most important feature of the printer , whether compact or not, is that it prints enough pages per cartridge, though I find that having a printer with a scanner function comes in handy. Hope this helps!

thank you angelt841

Printing at Eksind Biomed Library is free (first 30 pages). I found that out second semester sophomore year and gave away my printer. It’s $0.04/page elsewhere on campus. Most upperclassmen use libraries.

thank you GCN2

My D rarely used her printer when she was at her first school, but she was really thankful for it when she transferred to Vandy. She used it all the time … especially to print out those late-night papers.

It’s good to bring own printer, cheaper and you can print projects anytime of the day…

I’d definitely recommend having your own printer. It comes in handy. Just have to watch out for all the moochers who want to use it.
