Printers?

Specifically at andover, are there printers available in the dorm or do i need to bring my own?

From the technology portion of Andover's web site:

Printing on Campus

Q:Can my son/daughter print from their room to a public printer?
A: No, not from the dorm, but the PACC (Phillips Academy Computer Center) lobby is open early (7:00 a.m.) for printing purposes. The entire lab opens at 7:55 a.m.

But you might want to wait to see if your roommate is bringing a printer....we happened to have gotten a free printer with a recent computer purchase, so my niece will be bringing that....

Perhaps the Andover students here can give more real world information.....

There are not printers in any of the dorms, to my knowledge. There are printers in the PACC (Phillips Academy Computer Center.) You email your paper/whatever to the computers there, and they print for you. Quality for coloured stuff is not very good, and costs money, but for black and white it's fine.
So you don't need a printer, but it is more convenient. Matter of personal preference, really. And if you regularly complete papers after 10 pm the night before it's due, you have to rush to the library before classes or during conference period, which can be a little stressful.

What percentage of Andover students bring printers?

Because I'm hedging on my roommate bringing one.

I'd haggle an estimate at 70%. You can usually find someone at least in your dorm, if not in your room, to let your borrow a printer.
you don't need one. I like having one, but when it broke at the end of the year, I lived.

My son's sat on his desk and collected dust. It wasn't compatible with Vista; he is not a geek and couldn't/wouldn't try to download a patch or call IT. He says he didn't need the printer. I'm not sending one this year.

Yeah, decided. Not bringing one.
