Printers

I was wondering whether students bring their own printer, or do they share with the room mate (like a fridge item), or do they use the printers at the dorm?

My son has never had his own printer. He uses the printers available in the labs or library or maybe dorms. Wherever they are. I am not sure on the location. He has a nice computer but has never coveted a personal printer.

There are labs in the dorms that you can network your computer to. Last year ITS installed 'print release' computers, so you have to walk down to the lab, release your print job at the computer and then it'll print. They're good on keeping the paper stocked up and the printers in good repair. A personal printer isn't needed unless you print things in color often (as you have to go to ITS's office to do that or you need to be an art student).

I assume use of the library/dorm printer is free, and not a pay for use affair - correct?

All printers on campus free to use. The library does charge for copying but various secretarial offices around campus will let you photocopy things for free, as long as you ask for permission first--they get mad when people mess up the settings on the copiers.
