Got accepted to journalism and honors program…could not be happier

@coleman4 UMD’s Engineering school is a LEP (Limited Enrollment Program). Although your daughter was accepted into the college itself, she was not accepted to the engineering school. Letters and Sciences is the college for undecided majors, or students who were not accepted to LEPs. However, she can still reapply next year to the Engineering school.

What percentage of Scholars receive offers of merit aid?

D was accepted into the Honors College. Biological Sciences major. She’s very happy!

How can you be offered the Scholars program, but not be accepted into your “school”?

Denied, but congratulations to those who were accepted…

I got accepted to their “Letters and Sciences” too and applied to engineering. Their is no specific engineering school, it has a general school (College of Letters and Sciences) that include more majors than engineering

@ cohen2000 - same question as bjkdad- how can you be accepted to the Scholars program if you didn’t get into your LEP program?

Daughter got accepted - Smith School of Business

When do we find out about Merit Aid?

My son is on the court right now warming up for a basketball game and can’t check yet – aargh!

@bjkdad There are two different parties evaluating applicants for admission to UMD itself and the particular school you apply for. While the general admissions people may have admitted you to scholars, the school you applied to did not (because it is probably very competitive, especially if it is the engineering or business school).

Also, to address your other question, I do not know an exact percentage of scholars students who receive merit aid. What I can tell you is that whether or not you receive merit aid depends heavily on test scores. I am a Freshman in the honors college, and my high school GPA was 3.87 / 4.52. My SAT score was a 2080, and I didn’t get merit aid through the university. Many scholars students get merit aid, and many honors students don’t. If you do not get merit aid through the university (president’s, dean’s, Banneker/Key), there are also departmental scholarships through your specific college that you can apply for.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who was accepted. Condolences to those who were not.

THERE’S A STATS THREAD FOR ACCEPTANCES HERE:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1610091-priority-applicant-decision-thread-and-statistics.html#latest

Please consider filling it out so that next year’s students will know what it took to do x this year.

I’m not seeing anything regarding a decision in my app portal? It’s just saying submitted.

bjkdad and coleman4, I don’t know how that works, but it happens every year. Decisions were made whose reasons we will never know. Fairness has nothing to do with it. The school had its reasons.

Scroll down on that page^

there will be a red link a little ways down the page

Well, both my girls were accepted into Honors program today. Nice. They were also accepted into Pitt and Ohio State… I think it will come down to the $$ bc both Pitt and OSU have already offered nice merit scholarships. We are OOS for all 3. Also applied to a number of private schools. This college process is NOT fun.

and @waiting2hear, I am so sorry. You will find your home. Trust that.

Cheergirl admitted Fall 2014 to Psychology (LEP) but no mention of Honors or Scholars.

Congratulations to everyone receiving good news.

I feel so naive, but this is all I am seeing.
