Congrats to everyone! Very exciting!

@jkeil - funny (cast aspersions)… thanks for the chuckle…

Hi all. After following this thread for more than a month I must say, thank you. Especially to @Maryversity, considering i dont think ive read one thing that wasnt true from you.

That being said CONGRATS to everyone. I was admitted to the spring semester sadly, but am also on the wait list for regular admission for the fall. Im curious if anyone can tell me more about the odds of me getting in the fall? Strictly for housing and roommate purposes (one of my best friends also got freshmen connection so we want to room together.) I dont want to get the ball rolling setting things up for spring and then end up getting in for the fall.

Also, i know that its POSSIBLE for freshmen connection students to get dorm housing as well on a “first come first serve basis” anyone have a first hand experience with this or know anyone who actually got dorm housing and were a freshmen connect. student? Just curious. All replies are appreciated!! Thank you to all of you for keeping me sane this past month.

Do you have to pay enrollment deposit to sign up for housing?

First off, congrats on your admission - it’s not a “sadly” thing at all! It is still an admission, so you should celebrate getting in!

If you do Freshman Connection, you will still have the ability to graduate in May 2018 and no one will know you started in the spring instead of the fall…really not a big deal other than a hiccup. Can’t tell you odds for waitlist…sorry. Dorm housing for FC is actually a new option starting your year…in the past, all FC students had to get housing at the Varsity or the View (or elsewhere off campus).

Best advice ever is from astrophysicsmom…see her advice in thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1283751-new-admits-advice-mom-2-terps.html

congrats guys for getting in! And don’t worry if you didn’t get into honors or scholars… doesn’t really matter once you get here.

@Maryversity you know what, you’re right. I should be and am, very excited. Time to choose between USC Columbia w/ business school or CP… Still, very excited. Thank you for that thread link, I had no clue you could apply for housing and not actually be committed to the school. Will be taking her advice.

Told you

@Tgrabs127 Wait, you got into USC and Columbia but was admitted for Spring at Maryland?

@jibler I believe it’s University of South Carolina which is in Columbia, SC

Thank you @maryversity and @jkeill911 for the info.

I got accepted, but not honors :frowning: is there any way to transfer to honors after freshmen first semester?

I don’t think so but you can still apply for departmental honors at some point.

@Jibler no not Columbia U, my apologies. University of South Carolina, Columbia. If i got into Columbia, and spring for UMD that would be pretty ridiculous actually haha

It’s gonna be funny when I get into Georgetown and not UMD.

Still nothing. :-?

tbb, what’s your major?

Music majors won’t find out decisions until Thursday or Friday of this week, we were told at DS’s audition last Friday (because the School of Music admissions folks have to meet with the University’s admissions folks and coordinate admission to School of Music w/admission – or not – to the University itself). This was mentioned in passing during a for-the-parents session – they didn’t make a big deal about it. I thought they should’ve made it more clear (and I double-checked on it to make sure what they meant), since everyone is eager to hear results at this point!!

Apparently my transcript did not get there until 11/22. I have no idea how this happened, unless my school f***ed something up. I’ll have to find my receipt but I’m certain I had them sent around 10/14. I have been moved to RD because of this…so now I have to compete for the remaining 10% of the spots or whatever the number is.

Oh well. I’ll be in Tempe on the 16th where it’s 70 degrees out. :)

yeah, but what’s 50 degrees when we’re talking about the difference between Honors and Barrett?

I’m not getting into Honors anyways, I only have a 3.9. [-(

But seriously though, is honors actually better than Barrett? Barrett received $130,000,000 in 2009 so the whole thing is practically brand new. I get exclusive internships, class registration, travel programs, research + thesis for grad school, amazing food  , smaller honors courses with honors profs, honors gym, honors dorm complex…etc. How does honors/scholars compare to this?

TBB…we have had this discussion about Barrett. When you go ask a lot of questions and find out where you will be living and where your classes will be. There is a big difference going to school at the downtown campus vs the main campus at ASU. Not to be rude but Barrett is an average honors college trying their best to attract good students.
