Hi all!
I am a high school junior applying to Penn State. I want to submit my application before the priority deadline, but my SAT scores may not arrive in time. I have taken the ACT and scored a 28, but my SAT is projected to be around a 1500 (a way better score). Is there a way to submit my SAT after the deadline and have them still consider it? I think I can get in on my ACT score with a 4.3734 GPA, but I also want to apply for some selective scholarships as well. Any advice?
Your application must be COMPLETE by November 30 to be considered priority. If any part of your application, including test scores, shows up after that, then you application is not considered complete and will be in the next pool of applicants which is more competitive.
You either need to apply prior to Nov 30 with the stats you have, or wait hoping for better stats but going against a more competitive admission.
I’d say send your stuff before Nov 30. With a 4.3 and a 28ACT, you should be fine anyway.
@jlhpsu Thanks for the information! I have already sent my ACT scores. I was wondering if there was a way to get admitted on my ACT, but use my SAT for scholarships (particularly the millennium scholars program). The SAT release date to colleges is the 28th of November, but I think that is just the first release date. Also, will being a junior hurt my admissions chances?
@KG5APR I missed that you were a junior. Regardless of your GPA or test scores, you usually need to have graduated high school to attend college - Do you have all of the required courses to meet the minimum requirements for admission to the program you want?
I wouldn’t want my child to go to college so young even if you could get in - are you sure that’s a good idea?
I’m not sure about scholarships etc…except to say that PSU does not give much aid at all. I wouldn’t expect much from the school themselves. They are notoriously lacking in merit aid.
Apparently there’s a dual enrollment type thing OP is applying for.
I maintain that such a specific program is impossible to chance.
@bodangles No…according to the other posts the OP has made, s/he is attempting to bypass the senior year of HS altogether and get into college a year early. The dual enroll programs at PSU are totally different. My daughter did dual enroll during her senior year and took about 9 credits at a PSU branch campus during her senior year. But she was still considered a HS student and she applied through a totally different process. I believe the OP is attempting to skip their senior year altogether… Correct OP?
@jlhpsu This is what OP told me yesterday: “Penn State has a program for select juniors to go and finish high school at the same time.”
Either way it’s not the same as regular freshman admission and OP needs to mention it in any of their threads if they want to get a response that has a chance of being accurate.
@jlhpsu @bodangles Sorry for the confusion. Penn state has an option to go to college early (after junior year). Once you have completed one year at Penn State, you will receive a high school diploma. I applied to Penn State itself. The program is rare though, so not a lot of people have heard of it.
@bodangles @KG5APR Got it. I didn’t know PSU even had such a program. Good to know. That being said, I think bodangles is correct in that the admission requirements for that are surely different than regular admission so there is no way for anyone to really tell you how your application would compare to others applying for the same program.
Good luck!
