private highschool help :P

hello~! i'm an 8th grade girl in ca.

There are two schools that i am just DREAMING of going into- andover and exeter.
although i still need good ssat scores, recommendations, and the chance of getting into those schools is less than thirty percent, money's still a problem.

*for those who had kindly suggested financial aid, i can't apply for it. it involves visa, tax things, etc (don't worry. i am a LEGAL resident and DO pay tax). i don't know so much about it, but my mom and my older sister already tried it.

for andover, they are requiring at least 33,000 dollars of tuition, but if you would add flight tickets + books, etc, it's going to cost me about 40,000 dollars a year.

for exeter, it's about the same, but i think it's a little less. i heard of a girl who got schoarships, not financial aid, to exeter. she pays about 10,000 dollars a year including flight tickets and personal expenses. couldn't find anything regarding this on the website.

if i had a choice, i would definitely go to andover. but despite the money, it'll be hard to get into either schools because i don't play a sport, don't play an instrument, and don't have a good record of community service. for school grades, i get As (i homeschool, btw).

maybe all this will be possible if i oneday walk into bill gates or some rich ppl like that? maybe he'll break my bike or something and i'll request forty thousand dollars for it :p

Contact the prep schools and ask for their advice. Odds are long that there are not a lot of people on this site who have the info you're looking for.

This is the fifth thread you have started on exactly this topic, and it is starting to get a wee bit tiresome.

My daughter attended private K-12 schools- and while we did pay out a good portion of her tuition, the schools subsidized the rest.

Aid from the accepting school is your best bet for private K-12 education, if you are unable to cover it.
However- my suggestion would be for you, is to identify why you are interested in these two schools?
What are you looking for that these schools can fulfill?

Ill give you a clue though- Bill Gates doesn't sponsor individuals, and certainly not to attend an east coast boarding school- particulary someone who doesn't seem to know what she wants- other than attend a "name" school.

Look in your own backyard- you will be surprised at the resources you will find

optimizerdad , i'm so sorry ;] i just am so desperate...i know that my case is really weird, Northstarmom , but that's why i keep on posting...in hope of someone seeing this and knowing the answer...you know how college confidential gets so many new threads and stuff...if you leave it for like a day, it gets pushed back a few pages and no one sees it anymore....yeah, even i'm tired of posting this again and again, but at least it's better than asking random people you meet in the streets or anything.
again, sorry!!!

thanks, emeraldkity4 ! haha i was just joking about the bill gates part, though. :]

I've answered your posts, too. From what I observe at Andover, kids who get aid seem to fall into a few categories: athletes, prodigies and those that bring diversity. They can get all the highly qualified full pay whites and asians they want. So figure out what you have to offer. Are you from a small state or underrepresented country? Do you have a special or unusual talent. Focus on those and apply.

hmmm well, i live in california, so i guess that's not that of a small state...yes, i do know i should have my unusual talent...i'm into performing arts and that's about it..having asian parents, i guess i spent too much time working on my writing and other academics.

thank you!!
