I’m transferring as a junior in the fall and I was wondering whether anyone had any advice about getting private housing around UCLA, or any general advice on private housing (commute, roommates, etc.)

Thanks a lot

if you can get a roommate, the price will be kinda cheap. 450-600/month shared room, within walking distance…

More like 7~800, walking distance, with 1 or 2 roommates. Trust me. I’ve been looking through all possible listings in Westwood.

I’m also looking at “roommates wanted” in private housing now (since the ucla housing assignment thing is a tad wack, apparently). how are you guys finding places for the fall, when most listings are advertising appts available immediately? are you just paying for extra months? also, ucla has a system where private landlords/renters/etc. post stuff, I think you can find it on the housing website somewhere.

it’s definitely going to be between 7 and 800 to share a room in westwood.

use this: [Los Angeles Apartments, Orange County Apartments, and San Diego Apartments](http://www.westsiderentals.com)
pay the fee.
it’s worth it.
there are a ton of listings that advertise exclusively through the site, and often times, those are the best deals / spots.

if you’re willing to commute, you can find rooms way cheaper in the surrounding areas.

thanks for the link pinkereitan.

I’ve been looking for over a month now (yeah, I’m type A to the max) and the difficult thing about looking is that most places available for next year want people to begin the lease NOW or in July. I can’t afford anything until September. Do you guys think more places will open up then, or do they all get reserved earlier?

CKG & Sopheee,

I found that it helps if you search “fall” or “09-10”. I got frustrated in the beginning seeing all the listings for Summer session sublets, but yeah… it is REALLY time-consuming!!

I use this free great website (for UCLA students) and I urge everyone to use it, because one day after I posted my listing I was offered 10 great places to choose from:

If a female is still looking for an off-campus apartment, PM me, I will forward you a couple of offers for free ;)

…for free and a chocolate-chip cookie :]
