I don't know, I think if you have high SAT's you'll be set anywhere...I wish I did, my gpa isnt getting me too much $

A lot of schools give you tons of money for being a National Merit Finalist, it's a great reason to do well on your PSAT's junior year.

1530, didn't get me a cent at Penn.

Here's a list of guaranteed scholarships for a variety of reasons including SAT scores, NHS membership, HOBY attendance:

Here's a list that a wonderful CC member created of colleges giving National Merit scholarships. If you check out the colleges, many also give scholarships for students achieving certain SAT scores, regardless of whether the students make National Merit: http://homepage.mac.com/l_j/secondhome/National_Merit.html

Are you a senior or junior? Boston University is generous with merit aid. Deadline was Dec. 1 for the Trustee Scholarship which is full tuition for 4 years. S was accepted early decision with half-tuition scholarship based on his GPA/ACT score-- no special application needed.

If you're talking about U of Pennsylania, the reason your SAT didn't net you a dime is that this university doesn't give any merit aid. Their aid is all need based (as is the case with all the Ivy League schools).

Yea, I should have rephrased my comment- you'll be set for aid anywhere that gives merit schloarships. If you look at schools where you are overqualified you will probably get close to a full ride.

i'm really hoping that case will be generous this year! earlier in the year i felt fairly confident that i would be able to afford case, but the closer i get to may 1, 2005 (decision date) the more nervous i become. by the way, most of the large state universities give very few merit-based scholarships due to their low tutions costs. most private colleges, with the exception of the ivy leagues, tend to be more generous in the area of merit-based scholarships. good luck with everything and merry christmas!

from my school, people have gotten a lot of money from wash-u and case western.

Don't look at Ivies, because they won't give you sh** unless your financially needy.

Carnegie Mellon
USC
Boston University( I think you have to have like a 1500)

the 1500 should get you a full ride at boston u, but you also have to submit this other application.

Here's a list of schools that give guaranteed scholarships, none of which are your top privates.

Liek...Which other application needs to be completed to get merit $$ at Boston U?

My D applied for the presidential scholarship...is that what you mean?

yeah that's the one i meant.

I didn't read any of the previous posts, but when you talk about merit based scholarships at BU, then you definitely will need to apply for financial aid because the FAFSA is used when determing eligibility for merit $$. The admissions department are responsible for issuing merit based scholarships, and they aren't guaranteed. Each scholarships has it's own criteria that needs to be met, and you can find that on BU's financial aid website, www.bu.edu/finaid. However, it is still imperative that even if you don't NEED any financial aid that you still apply for need based funds because as I said previously, the FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for merit based scholarships as well. Being that BU requires both the FAFSA and CSS Profile, it might be wise to complete them both. For definite information, it is best to contact the ADMISSIONS office about merit based scholarships....not the Office of Financial Assistance because they don't deal with merit based anything. Good luck!

tulanes pretty generous with the green stuff (they werent for me, but i slacked off in high school, and i was borderline for it)
