Private vs UC ?

Any input would be appreciated. UC Davis In the honors program or Santa Clara University with scholarship that will cover most of tuition. Cost over 4 years would balance out to not that much different with the cost of living in the Bay Area.

Santa Clara.

What is your major?

Was going for environmental science and business but thinking neuroscience now. So really who knows. I enjoy science good at math and writing.

If you received full tuition at Santa Clara then it should be much less than UC Davis, it looks like their room and board is around 12k plus books and incidentals. UC Davis cost is nearly 30k a year. What are the conditions to keep the scholarship, is the gpa threshold something you can maintain? I would go with Santa Clara, I think there’s something to be said for smaller class sizes and a private school environment as long as you like the vibe of the school. Have you visited both?

Yes visited both. Like things about both. Davis also gave scholarship money. Santa Clara has been going up about 3000.00 a year for room/board and tuition. The scholarship will at Santa Clara won’t go up. So next year room and board are 17,000 then 20,000 then 23,000 and 26,00. Davis will be about 22,000 first year.

If you are leaning towards Neuroscience, UCD is a far better choice. My son’s best friend is currently doing Neuroscience research and will be attending UCD for Grad school. She has nothing but great things to say about the program.

The schools are rather different. The thing S was not too keen on was the religious aspect to SCU. The killer was they told him they’d have him withdraw if he missed more than xx days in a term and lose his form, scholarship and everything, even tho it was due to his documented chronic medical condition. He opted to toss their generous scholarship and was find with me telling them why.

UC tuition and rents around Davis are also going up. I would lean toward Santa Clara but, i have a bias against massive schools like Davis. We have a Jewish neighbor who is a Sr at Santa Clara, I recently asked him about what it was like to attend a Catholic school as a someone who actively practices another religion. He said it felt awkward at first but, there is no ‘pressure to convert’ he is in a Jewish student club on campus and worships an a nearby syn agog. The school is built around a Mission and is run by Jesuits so, there is no escaping crucifixes and other religious symbols but the students are ’ pretty chill’ and he never feels like an outsider.
