Probability I could convince Chapman to give me higher merit scholarship?

I heard a couple weeks ago that I got into Chapman EA. I was so excited since Chapman has been very high on my list for the past 9 months. The only downside is that I was only offered the Dean’s Scholarship, when I was really hoping for Provost. My parents have set a budget of $45K/year, so I would have to go into debt if all I get is Dean’s scholarship.

My SAT was 1350 and my GPA is hard to figure out (Can anybody confirm that Chapman uses weighted GPA?) since it is based on 3 different transcripts, but is about 3.9 give or take a bit. I think it is safe to say it is 3.85-3.95.

This past quarter my weighted GPA is 4.57, but it wasn’t factored in because it will not show up on my transcript until January.

Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions on whether Chapman would recalculate my GPA including my most recent transcript and reevaluate my merit scholarship. It could make the difference between me choosing Chapman or a different college.

If it matters, I have also gotten into 4 other colleges EA and each one has offered more merit than Chapman.

My understanding is they will not revisit scholarship decisions. But it never hurts to ask.

Chapman is competitive in California because it’s one of the few private schools that are located in Southern California. It’s a pretty good school and has a beautiful campus. You can ask for more money, but if they don’t give it to you, have four other choices that you can use.

Our son applied to EA and has not heard back from Chapman yet. He has similar qualifications as what you listed. I have heard in some cases they will increase the scholarship amounts if you send a letter but is case by case. Let me know if you were successful asking for more money? Good luck making the decision and congrats on being accepted!

Did he apply EA to film production? Because all EA applicants besides film prod have already heard back.

yes he applied for film production. Hopefully they notify applicants soon as this is high on his list!

They’ve said many times that EA notifs will be mid February!

I originally received the Dean’s Scholarship after applying early action. I have very similar stats as you and I knew I would need a better scholarship to attend. I emailed my admissions rep explaining my situation and attached higher scholarships I had received from other schools. She emailed me back saying they would review it. 24 hours later my letter on the portal switched to the Provost Scholarship. It never hurts to ask!

I definitely think you should either call or email as short and sweet did above. My close friend’s son goes to Chapman. He was actually advised by admission to do this if his outside scholarships were not sufficient. He is a computer major of some sort. They basically told them that some of their funds MUST be used, so if some of the higher dollar awards are to declined students, they have funds available. If you do it now, and they decline, you might ask if it would be appropriate to ask again closer to decision day.

Did you ever get a response from Chapman and how much did you get from Deans and/or whatever you got?

Did you ever get a response from Chapman?

I decided to wait for my official transcript to show my fall grades and it took forever. I just emailed them last week and attached a scan of the transcript. I haven’t heard back yet but will reach out next week if I still haven’t at least received an acknowledgement of my email. I will post as soon as I get a decision, whether it is good or bad.

I just heard back today. They said no. What is confusing is that they said they never reevaluate. It seems that some here had them reevaluate, and I heard a couple of stories from other places that people had asked for more merit and gotten it. Too bad.

If anybody had them reevaluate and give more THIS YEAR, would love more detail. I am deciding if it is worth replying to give them examples of people they increased merit for.
