Does anyone know average stats/info for the bigger merit scholarships at Chapman? I applied as a theatre major (second choice--undecided), regular decision. Chapman's probably in my top three schools and I'm trying to figure out how much merit I'd be eligible for if I were to get accepted. :)

For reference here are my stats...
SAT: 2000 (730 W, 670 CR, 600 M)
SAT IIs: 760 Lit, 640 US History
ACT: 30
GPA: 3.8 UW, 4.2 W

Lots of ECs (every aspect of theatre possible), more or less an "average" schedule at an extremely competitive public school. (4 APs, 3 this year and 1 last year.)

My son was awarded a Chancellor's scholarship ($16.0 per year).....his ACT was a 31, SAT 2's - Math 770, Physics 680 and gpa uw of 3.8..he is in film production...he did not get a talent scholarship...don't know if the merit scholarships are mainly stats based or if other parts of his application helped him get the merit award....

Corky, I believe talent scholarships aren't mailed until early March, if it applies to film majors. I'm a dance major and I spoke with the director of undergrad dance admissions, and she told me that they waited until the end of Feb to start divvying up talent scholarships. :)

shineovershadows....you are correct....I guess I wasn't clear on my posting....my son is now a freshman in film production so I was referring to last year when someone asked what stats it took to get a merit award or talent....after receiving his merit scholarship letter, he did eventually receive a letter from Dodge, probably in March, saying sorry, you are not receiving a talent scholarship!....it looks like they have upped the scholarship money.....last year the chancellor's scholarship award was $16.0/year, now it looks like those receiving the same scholarship will be getting $18.0/year...

I was awarded the Chancellor’s scholarship (20k) and my scores aren’t that impressive… (1880 SAT, no subject tests or ACT…) I think it really was my essays and letters of rec that shone through.

My friend’s DS was accepted without any scholarship notification in the packet, but with stats that seems as if there should have been some merit offered (3.8 UW, 2200 SAT, 710 & 730 SAT IIs from a competitive HS). Could this be an oversight, or is the university simply not offering this child any merit scholarship?

^Tell your friends to check through the packet again. It’s actually easy to miss the very plain award letter. Those stats warrant merit at Chapman, and the awards are largely consistent and predictable. We actually missed DS’s merit letter, initially, and noticed it later.

I was awarded a chancellors scholarship ($20K per year). My unweighted GPA is 3.75, 2020 SAT. Good amount of community service and extra currics. Congrats to everyone else who got one!

I believe that their merit scholarships are calculated just from SAT/ACT score and GPA based on the information they ask for on the Net Price Calculator available on the Chapman website. I knew that my D would qualify for the Presidential scholarship before she even submitted her application (assuming she was accepted of course - which she was).

Only caveat is that Admissions calculates their own GPA based on transcripts. As I recall, they weight AP courses, but do not weight Honors courses. As a result, the GPA Chapman uses to determine merit awards may differ somewhat from the student’s HS GPA.
