Problem - I missed the scholarship deadline

I've applied to quite a few schools, but I started getting deferred and denied. I started to look for more schools to apply to, and I have fallen in love with UMD from online reviews and descriptions. I really want to apply.

I'm an out of state student. My stats are: OOS, 30 ACT, 3.5 GPA, Lots of ECs (tennis captain, swim captain, bowling team, Model UN, Habitat for Humanity internship, 100s of volunteer hours).

One problem though- I've missed the scholarship deadline, I believe. I definitely need some money to think about going to this school. Is there any possible way I can get any merit money from UMD, having missed the deadline? If not, do you think I would have gotten any merit money anyway?

Basically, is there any point in applying?

Unfortunately, there is no way for you to get merit money now that you’ve missed the deadline. They won’t make an exception, I’m sure of that. And to be honest, I don’t really think you would have gotten any aid either way. You have strong stats, but they’re not so far above UMD’s average for them to give you money, especially you being OOS. I would definitely still apply. There are plenty of outside scholarships and financing programs to help ease the cost of college.

Realistically, though, without merit aid, any financial aid you’ll get probably won’t come close to the cost of OOS tuition.
