problems with registration =[ please help!

anyone with knowledge about this stuff-- please help!!

so i was out of the country during the registration window and therefore had to give the registrar's office my class choices with alternatives so that they could register me. however, i got the last registration window in the lottery. when i got back, i saw that i had not been registered for any classes because all my choices were full. [note: i was automatically registered into my focus cluster classes so it was just 2 classes-- the ones for my intended major, that are not available to me]

so my question is/ questions are-- what in the world do i do now? i need to take chem 31 and math 31 this fall in order to not get behind in my major. how unfair is it that i want to be a chem major but i'm already off track just cuz there's no room in the classes?? what are the chances that i'll be able to add the classes i need during the add/drop period? and how likely is it that the professor will allow me into the class despite it being full?

so should i just browse around for another major i might possibly be interested in or idk work on classes towards a minor this semester and hope to catch up with my intended degree by taking summer classes?

First of all, take a deep breath. I know this is all very stressful and it seems like the end of the world, but it will all work out.

Don’t get too caught up in falling behind in your major/minor. Many students don’t even take a class in their major/minor until the 2nd or 3rd semester and they still have plenty of time to get stuff done. You absolutely do not (and should not) look around for a new major before you even enter college and take some courses. There are reasons that Trinity students can’t even declare a major until sophomore year - they want you to try out a bunch of different things before you decide what is right for you. There’s no need to stress about majors/minors just yet. I’m not super knowledgable with the Chemistry major, but it does look like they recommend Chem/Math 31L for your first semester. If you think you are pretty set on Chem, there are a few things you can do.

As for Math 31L, it looks like there are some available sections (sections 04, 05, and 09). Do all three of these conflict with your FOCUS classes? If not, you can enroll in them right now without any problems. With Chem 31L, it looks like they have overenrolled the course and allowed some additional students in, so you’re not out of luck there. My suggestion would be to contact the Academic Advising Center. Their e-mail, phone number, and hours are listed on the right-hand side of this website: [Duke University | Trinity College of Arts & Sciences : First Year](http://trinity.duke.edu/advising/first-year). Let them know that you really would like to get into Chem 31L and they can probably give you a permission number or manually enroll you in the course. If the open math classes conflict with your FOCUS classes, let them know when your FOCUS classes are and they might be able to squeeze you into a math class too.

Hope you can get it all sorted out, and let me know if you have any additional questions. Keep in mind that you can only adjust your schedule until tomorrow, and then registration closes until you meet with your advisor during Orientation Week. Good luck!
