Problems with Teacher Recommendation for ED -

I have sent in Part II of my application a week ago under the Early Decision Plan. My counselor recommendation, transcript, and SAT scores were also sent a week or two ago, and my teacher recommendation ought to have been sent over two weeks ago. My teacher, whom I asked for a letter of recommendation, thought he had sent it a while back after he had written it, but today, he informed me that he found it in one of his bags. Immediately, he sent it out in the mail today. Because it was after November 1st, he re-marked the check box for Interim Decision, which is not in accordance to my decision plan on my application. On my teacher recommendation, the Early Decision check box was checked before it was crossed out and the Interim Decision was checked, for my teacher thought that, because he was sending it after Nov 1st, the Interim Decision box should be checked instead. When I told him this, he assured me that he would call Rice admission office to rectify the situation.

Does anybody know whether this will make me ineligible for the ED Plan? I have everything sent in except for this letter of recommendation, which, if the admission officer will accept his words that it should be under ED and not Interim Decision, will be 6 days after the ED deadline.

I have sent an email to the Rice office of admission, and I'm hoping to receive an answer soon. However, does anybody know whether this will make me ineligible or not? I'm just panicking right now.

Thanks.

Do not panic. The teacher was wrong to assume that because he was late sending out the rec, that it would not be admissible. Only the student's part of the app has to be on time. The rest can come a few days late (as Nov. SAT scores invariably do).

Ask your teacher to call Rice and also send an email so there is a record of his request to change the date from Interim to ED. He might also send another copy of his rec, making sure that your full name and DOB appear on it and underscoring that it is for ED. It may be a bit of overkill, but better safe than sorry.

Thank you, marite, for your advice. I'm trying to calm down right now. Hopefully, Rice will accept the letter of recommendation. And I will ask my teacher to send an email in addition to calling them, as you suggested, to have a record of it. I might ask him to send another copy of the rec, too, if it's not too much of a problem for him. He has the letter saved, but he'll still need to fill out the rec form, which is two pages.

Relaaaaaax. It'll be okay! :)

they will accept it....they set that nov 1 date to get the students stuff in and started, they allow for buffer time to get in all the rest of the stuff, and it takes a week or more to get it all filed, printed, logged so they don't even look at anything for weeks

catch your breath, thank the teacher and eat a cookie

Thanks, anxiousmom and citygirlsmom! Your reassurances make me feel a lot calmer. I thought that everything had to be postmarked by Nov 1st to be counted, so I was really scared. I will try to relax now and thank my teacher when I see him tomorrow. :)

remember teachers probably make mistakes with those forms and if the school has any questions, the main application will be what they look at
