procrastination

Any tips on how to keep yourself from procrastination?

make a list of things to do. write things down on a planner. I do those things and still procrastinate, but maybe they'll work for you.

Procrastination is KILLING me right now!! It is making me suffer so much right now and I am really getting way too much stress and frustration and anger right now.

don't fight it :D

Seriously, it is ruining my life right now. In fact, I'm procrastinating as I type this, I should be studying for my Chemistry test which is this Friday!!! ARRGHHH!!! I just can't help it, its overpowering me, I have to fight it, I have to get rid of it!!

To get over procrastination, first get over your addiction to the internet. You know you are addicted!!

Yes, yes I am! Actually yeah, thats the one thing thats causing me to procrastinate in the 1st place!!!

yeah lol, as I asked the question, I was procrastinating on writing a paper that was originally due last wednesday, but I got an extension on, and have to turn in today--stayed up till 3am working on it and it's decent, but ug I wish I didn't love to procrastinate so much! I also had to do calc homework (graded, which I did during Desprate housewives and Grey's anatomy), and read 5 short stories, write 1-3 pages of dialogue, and a mini response to one of the 5 stories... and if course I left it all to do last night after 6 pm....

I still remember, my sophomore year in HS, I didn't do this one english paper, just because I couldn't sit down and do it, and I like, hid from my teacher so he wouldn't ask me about it out of class, for a MONTH. I still ended up with I think a B+ on the paper, but UG. I don't want a repeat of that. :-

Set aside a block of time a few hours long each night just for working. Most of the time when I procrastinate it's because I dread working on that project/paper/whatever for hours on end, so what I've started to do is set a timer for half an hour. Each half hour I concentrate on a different class, and I try to mix it up between just reading and doing homework assignments (so I don't drift off into space for an hour and a half reading textbooks). By only budgeting for a half hour a day on that subject, you're more likely to actually get work done rather than keep pushing it off. (If you're going to have the discipline to take the time to work, you might as well make it effective work). I've actually had more time to do fun things once I started working this way, and that's always a great payoff!

there is an excellent article about procrastination at http://mentalhelp.net/psyhelp/chap4/chap4r.htm It talks about several different motivations for procrastinating, and also tips on how to solve it.

"For perhaps a third of all student procrastinators, a To-Be-Done List, a daily schedule (chapter 13), and a simple record-keeping and reward procedure (chapter 11) will do wonders. Like dieters, though, many find it hard to maintain their new study habits and backslide within two or three weeks."

"From a behavioral viewpoint, negative reinforcement plays a major role in the development of procrastination, i.e. behaviors (watching TV) and thoughts (rationalizations or excuses) enable students to avoid unpleasant work. Escape from something unpleasant is reinforcing. Procrastination is an escape. If we begin with the notion that procrastination is not the basic "problem" but rather an attempted "cure" for fears, self-doubts, and dislike of work, then it is obvious that most procrastinators will have to focus on the real problems in order to overcome the procrastinating behavior.
Wait until tomorrow to work on procrastination.

Uh... don't visit CC. It's like my number one procrastination tool. And cnn.com.
Remove yourself from your room/computer/bed or anything else that is too comforting.
It's helpful that I live somewhat far from campus. I'm on campus all day, with no room to go back to, and nowhere to hide from my work. I'm forced to go to the library, and then I feel guilty because everyone else there is working.

for the love of god, stay off of the facebook.

the others gave some good tips though.

Go immediately to the library and just work there and then go home.

Procrastination is my biggest problem. I just hate studying. I'll do the homework, but I wont study for tests till the last minute...which usually costs me my grade in the more difficult classes. I even waited till a day or two before to start on TERM PAPERS....I managed to crawl out of those classes with a B and a B- but I don't think that would be the norm if I made a habit out of doing that.

My suggestion is to just.....I dunno...you have to discipline yourself......unplug the tv, turn off the computer, shut your cell phone off, unplug your landline if you have one and just force youyrself to do what you have to do.

Im another victim of the procrastinator disease...i better unplug the internet and GET MY WORK DONE! AH. CC is so freakin addictive...cant help but check and post.
