Hi - I'm applying to an internship and they want 3 "professional references". I've really only had two jobs, though. For one of these, my "boss" is just a student supervisor, so I feel a little odd asking him to be a reference...do people do that?
For my third, is it possible to use a professor/advisor as a reference, or does it need to be someone that employed you?

I would get 2 professors… and then possibly your [non student] boss. But if they can’t write a good one, then get a third professor.

IMO, they want “professional” references, which means “not your friend”

Also think of any volunteer work that you may have done or organizations that you are part. Are there any leads or “professionals” that you feel could give credit to your character or work ethic.
