Professor Recs?

Hi yall. I have a really quick question for you veterans out there whove applied as a transfer to multiple colleges: How did you get your recs done? I'm assuming that you didnt hand your profs a batch of recommendations for every institution you were applying to. Is there a universal recommendation form that colleges all accept? Or can I just ask my prof to write a letter for me and then copy it and mail them out to the institutions? I've also heard some applicants boast about the "excellent recommendations," that they got; how do you know this? Are you allowed to look at them before you mail them out? I'm just totally lost here, because Im assuming that getting recommendations from college professors are very different from getting recommendation from your highschool teachers.

It really depends on the college. Barnard uses the Common App so you just use the Teacher Evaluation form for Professor Recommendations. The Supplement has forms for current semester profs to fill out but it's more of an evaluation than a recommendation. Penn also allows profs to use the same form as high school teachers. However some colleges, like Bryn Mawr, have a completely different application for transfers so the recommendation form for professors is also different. Basically, your prof can write one letter that can be sent to various schools but he/she needs to also fill out the form for the particular college that the recommendation is being sent. I would contact 2 or 3 profs to write my recs so that one prof isn't getting too many forms to fill out. I mean they do have other things to do like write books, take care of their families, do research, teach classes, run departments...you get the point.
