Professor References to increase chances... maybe?

Hey guys I just had a quick question that has been picking at me for a while that I thought I might as well get answered. Currently, I am a high school senior taking a class at Penn (a difficult college sophomore course) and am doing quite well in it. I have realized, by taking this class, that Penn is somewhere I see myself in the future. My grades, scores, etc all meet or exceed what Penn expects, so I am in the "lottery" at this point. Additionally, I know a couple professors at Penn who are pretty high up in terms of rank. Would I be able to ask them to put in a good word for me at admissions or would that be out of question?

Thank you!

I think a reference letter from a professor who’s class you are currently in might be helpful as they are directly familiar with your work. On what level do the professors that you “know” know you?
