profile of a colby presidential scholar

I’m really attracted to the idea of being a colby presidential scholar. I’m a double legacy with an ACT of 34 and SAT of 1510. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and have a variety of extracurriculars including science fair projects that qualify for states, teaching gymnastics at a YMCA, being a TA for studio art, and leading the school GSA. I want to know if this program is something that seems achievable to me. Are any of you Colby presidential scholars and if so, what did your college app look like?

Any updates?

If you go to the results threads from previous years, you’ll see people who were Presidential scholars. If you click on their names, you may find other threads in which they gave their stats. It’ll be a bit of work and you won’t find what you’re looking for every time, but it may get you some info.

I would think you have a chance. I would also say that if you don’t get it, you can probably still do research at Colby.

@hannahseastar I definitely think you have a chance. I got it this year (class of 2023) and I only have a 32 ACT and 3.91 weighted GPA. I’m hoping to be a vet and have worked for three years at a dog and cat spaying and neutering center, I did speech and debate all four years, I was in a program called capstone and created and ran my own small business. I just think my common app essay showed a lot of fit with Colby and the program, and I think that’s why I was ultimately chosen as a presidential scholar. My application wasn’t stellar, but it showed I fit with Colby and what they wanted

I’ve heard that if you apply early decision you will never get it. From my understanding it’s to try to lure in top RD candidates who have a shot at Ivy League or the more competitive LACs. With regular decision you have a shot, but the legacy might hurt you with that

My D is an incoming presidential scholar, and had 1560 SAT, 102 W GPA, lots of ECs with leadership, etc. But agree with the comment above that fit also matters. Her research project is practically custom-made for her - combines her strong interest in psychology (summer psych camp, psych club at school, AP psych) and law (mock trial). Also, my D met another presidential scholar who was a double legacy at admitted students day, so that doesn’t disqualify you. But you should apply RD if you’re hoping to be named a scholar. Good luck!
