Hello!

I plan on applying to Emory this year, and I was wondering what is the typical profile of an Emory Student? For example what was your GPA, SAT/SAT score, how many APs did you take, ECs, etc.

I have looked into the averages, but I would like to know about actual people and not just statistics.

Thank you very much in advance!

The people who post on College Confidential are not average Emory students. Seriously, just look at the averages to see if you have a shot at Emory although note that demonstrated interest is considered an important factor. Number of APs varies by school, but in general, you want to have a fairly rigorous load (but that should be true regardless of which college you plan on applying to).

If you like Emory, and don’t think it’s an unbelievable reach, then apply. If you like it enough, don’t think it’s an unbelievable reach, and can afford it after running the NPC, apply EDI.

Collecting a few anecdotes is not going to really inform “who’s actually admitted,” particularly in terms of GPA and SAT. The statistics tell you the most about that? The 50th percentile (average) score? Half are above, half are below. The 25th percentile? 1 out of 4 are below, 3 out of 4 are above.

If you want a more personalized view of “actual people,” search for the RD/ED admissions results threads.

This won’t help you much.

3.85. 2290. 770 and 740 on subject tests. 6 AP.
ECs were pretty standard other than AIME x2… But I guess only one since the second one was late senior year after I had been accepted.
Had a hook.

Yeah, it doesn’t help much because you are in the 75% lol (at least the scores. I’m sure the 3.85 is common…I guess). It looks as if people between 1370 (not counting writing) and 1400 who did well in AP/IB HL courses have a solid shot. Most of the people I know had between 4 and 6 AP/ IB HL courses (I personally had 8). I would honestly wait for the new admissions stats. to come out to have an idea of if that range is still applicable or not. I think it should be, the admission stats. Emory don’t change much, and they certainly should not have changed much this past cycle. However, any shifts of even 10-20 points in those ranges could work for or against you; As in, if they move up, which I highly doubt, they’ll have a recent precedent that says they can get statistically higher quality students, which I’m sure a person like Latting would be looking to exploit despite his talk about seriously reviewing the who application and looking for “curiousity and scholarly-like characteristics”.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I think I have a decent shot at Emory based on what you guys said. Thank you all very much once again.
