does anyone know if there are any programs at columbia for students to optimize the period of time they have after gaining admissions and before entering college? please help me out guys. thanks.

umm, what does that mean?

you mean like to mean Core/graduation requirements?

i wouldn't think so and i would discourage it anyway

do you mean deferring matriculation for a year (or two)?

for things like Korean / Israeli military service, Peace Corps, or any other gap-year type activities, they're usually supportive. I can tell you personally that taking a gap year was the best decision I ever made, in my entire life. It prepared me for college, it enabled me to get into Columbia, it gave me a work ethic and maturity, and it put a whole bunch of money in my pocket (I worked a FT job). Lots of good reasons to do so.

If you're not talking about gap years, please clarify.

thank you for the replies. i guess gap year would count. what i really meant though was, and i'm not sure about students in the US, but for some international students, they graduate high school in march and enter college in september, so i was wondering if colleges like columbia had any programs for students to do during that period of time.

Are you just trying to use Columbia as a way to enter the country early (rather than in august/september), are you trying to get a jumpstart on academics, or are you trying to get a job?

Besides, this is likely to be moot since the guy isn't likely to get in given the numbers.
