So… did anyone get the new Iron Maiden album?
New Maiden album? I was completely unaware. NWOBHM isn’t exactly prog, but it’s still good.
Dude, your music taste is amazing!
Iron Maiden has been around since the early 80’s. I wouldn’t call them NWOBHM. BTW IMO, their new album is fantastic. They have 3 songs over 10 mins, including an 18 minute epic to close the album
And thank you @Hermit9
NWOBHM was the early 1980s bands like Maiden. I haven’t listened to any of their post-Fear of the Dark material, but their classics are definitive NWOBHM.
What was the old wave of british heavy metal? LOL
And wow to those song lengths, I thought ROTAM was their longest work (and one of their best)
It was! Until now!
Original British heavy metal included early Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and even some Beatles stuff. For songs, check out “Black Sabbath”, “Dazed and Confused”, and “I Want You” by each respective artist.
There were also a lot of quasi-metal bands of the late 1970s, but metal hit its stride in the 1980s with NWOBHM and thrash metal of Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth.
Ohh ok. I understand now
Its a little bit misleading
It is. It was basically a rebirth because metal had become somewhat glam and superficial. Punk helped correct that in the late 1970s.
Don’t say that word!!!
What word?
I can’t say it either. It starts with a p and it is four letters. The last letter is a k and the middle letters are u and n
And it is responsible for killing prog
OMG, I used to feel the exact same way about punk, hahaha. I’m actually a pretty big fan now, though.
@Hermit9 Lol sorry about that then. I just don’t understand punk, and it killed my favorite genre
If you want a punk song to help you appreciate punk, I’d recommend either London Calling by The Clash or Holiday in Cambodia by Dead Kennedys. Both are quite likable and have solid guitar work, especially the latter, though the former’s vocals are better.
Oh I know the Clash! Heard of the Dead Kennedys. Might have to give it a listen
