Project Runway is Back

I don’t think they respect his opinions. Only once did I hear a contestant tell another to listen to Cristian’s advice.
At the first group exercise, he warned the team about the bows. He also told another to think about the fabric selection, as it was so unforgiving.

Christian is 35 and was the youngest winner of PR. He has years of experience now in fashion design. He is not Tim Gunn, but also, Tim is not Christian and that would likely be seen if they had a gown designing competition.

I loved Tim. I love Christian. Two different styles both ok for me. Many designers did not really respect Tim’s opinion either!

That all said, watched last week’s episode and agree with the elim decision. I did not think that Bones should have been in the bottom. He seems like a nice man. He seems very emotionally supportive of the other team members.

This week! Refreshing - back to designing fashion! So many amazing pieces. No spoilers but I knew who was going home pretty soon into the challenge. The winner deserved the win! Amazing!!!

While I thought that the winning gown was beautiful, Anna’s design was more my style. The designers really responded well to this week’s challenge–at least most of them as there were a few questionable garments. Interesting twist that they were allowed to use a fabric they brought from home. Don’t remember seeing that before.

Definitely haven’t seen “fabric from home” before - I wonder if there was a yardage limit - one of them mentioned having 6 yards - that’s a lot!

Oh, also currently there’s only one designer left I’m ready to see go home. Otherwise I’m pretty much into all of them

Fun floral episode. Katie is lucky that she didn’t get sent home.

I was happy for the winning look but for me I LOVED the other winning look from a female - the robe inspires look.

I wanted to say that this group seems to really get along - but then I saw the previews die next week! But seriously the support of the contestants for each other during judging is sweet. I also love that we see the safe contestants a bit more as the judging is happening.

Kind of strange that 2 of the top 3 had few flowers in them. The intro to the challenge showed a phone booth FULL of flowers so I expected flowers. They were also told to use the provided extra fabric ‘sparingly’ and while I like the red robe thing, it used a lot of fabric from the non-print supply.

Agree, to a point. The entire outerwear was the floral print, so I assumed that worked for the judges (frankly I didn’t understand the under garment). I have to say, I loved the twist on the classic “floral print” that the winner made. I’m not a floral (or animal) print person, so when I see a twist I can get into it (a few years ago I saw what I termed a “literal” animal print, I believe it was leopards, and it caught my attention in a positive way - made me think "I could wear that “animal” print) -

I thought the person that went home was the right one. They skated too long for me.

I always stop the show (any show actually) that does the ‘coming up on the next…’ so I’m in the dark, but I do hope the civility continues.

The last couple episodes have been sweetly civil, but the episode with the model swap was very far from civil. I know the show is edited to shape our views. I do hope that sort of behavior is not repeated.

That episode was horribly dysfunctional on too many levels. :frowning:

I just watched the Tara Lipinski/Johnny Weir episode. Can’t believe how Octavio threw Katie under the bus especially since his look also missed the mark. While Katie has struggled, he did not need to point that out.

I did love the winning look for Tara and cannot wait to see it on her during the Winter Olympics.

Overall (for me) the Tara/Johnny episode was a missed opportunity for all the designers. I honestly don’t think any of the designs were appropriate for the task, that is, sitting on a chair, being filmed from the mid-waist up. The winning dress was indeed beautiful, but not something for a “telecaster” (and white is basically a no-no for TV) - I felt terrible for the eliminated designer, physical health getting in the way is a real thing, stress can exacerbate health issues (we’ve seen that in other seasons), and I feel badly that they weren’t really equipped to take on the rigors of Project Runway.

And yes, Octavio was basically a bully the entire challenge. And his final design was terrible…for the challenge. Did he blackout during the brief? I ask because he created exactly the opposite of the requirements. Katie is her own worst enemy. She lacks confidence in her skills, but really needs to remind herself that she was chosen to be there for a reason.

This week’s challenge, colab with an accessories designer, was fun, and boy did we see some great collaborations! I actually loved the winning look (and I loved the versatility of so many pieces!), but the look with the gloves blew me away - not at all something I would wear, but stunning all the same! I was surprised by the eliminated designer because, finally, their “voice” came through, although I fully agree with the crit, the fabric was too heavy and the overall silhouette just didn’t work.

Did I already ponder this on the board…the designers seem to be much more focused than previous seasons. I wonder if being “stuck” at home during Covid lockdown, gave them time to really concentrate on their craft. I know for me, I finally had an opportunity to really hone in on my watercolor painting, without the (self imposed) pressure of feeling like I should be doing something else and not being so self absorbed.

I, too, loved the winning design and thought it met the challenge very well as the shoes and the outfit really went together well. But I loved the gloves/church outfit as well.

I also thought the ‘safe’ designer with the black skirt with the accessory of the chains really did a good job of showing off the accessory.

I don’t like the red mustache guy. Every week is the same loose, flowing dress. Nice, but not special.

And it was past time for Katie to go. There is no market for flowery baby doll dresses.

What did you all think about the latest avant-garde challenge. I’m on the fence. I won’t spoil…I wasn’t a fan of the red and black garment. And I felt (like I have before) like someone (actually more than one!) took credit for something that Christian suggested/recommended. As for the winning look, it certainly was avant-garde. The model surprised me with how dramatic they were. I’m still not sure how I felt about that.

Could we have Billy Porter as a judge permanently? Their sense of style and drama is needed regularly. I didn’t miss Brandon Maxwell at all!

I also agree with the winning look and LOVED Billy Porter as guest judge!

Would be nice, but I think Billy Porter is too A-level at this point.

No doubt. They’d be a breath of fresh air.

“Designers - take the rest of the day off. But now you only have one day for the challenge.” I would be like, no thanks, I’ll keep working.

I would have loved to have had Michael Kors judging this episode. Surely, he would have made a comment about the losing design representing a muppet’s genitalia.

LOL, I also laughed at the “take a day off” comment.

I liked the winning look. The paint thing really worked out though I doubted it when he had it outside on the ground.

Octavio is not a likable guy to me.

I do really like the woman that was saved. Like her as a person a lot.

I also thought the dude Bones was a working with was a JERK. I guess he apologized but I thought he was just awful to Bones!!!

I also have a soft spot for the guy who talked to his mother and who last week talked to someone about his rent being needed. I don’t think he’s winning material but he seems like a nice man who is really trying hard!
