Prom.........

I'm going. Sadly.
My mom made me go last year... I was a soph... I went with this guy friend. It wasn't very fun. I hated it actually......

Now this year I don't want to go. My mom still insists I do.. I got a dress, (bought it from a friend), but the whole chaos of a date is bothering me. I refuse to go with someone I don't know very well because of the drama of last year. So I've been talking to a guy from another school, but.. I don't know.. I'd almost rather not go with anyone.. But, that's not really a common thing around here... It sucks basically.

I'd rather go to Cedar Point. Ha.

wow. about 50% of girls go alone at my school

it's definitely lame here if you don't go with a date...not to mention extremely awkward
I don't have to worry about that until next year though, haha

I mean, the money we females spend on prom can get a tad outrageous, but I don't mind the original concept too much. You've worked hard all through high school, you're about to graduate, you might as well reward yourself with a pointlessly ridiculously expensive night out, right? haha.
I mean, really, when, exactly, is the appropriate time to be driven around in a limo? The point is the have fun, be crazy, and feel special for one night.

I do think that the original point has gotten a bit lost in the pressures of needing to find a date and feeling it necessary to spend a ton of money on a dress/shoes/hair/makeup. But, personally, I think it'd be fun to be all glamorous for a night.

ooooh..what about junior prom?

and its always

older guy + younger girl
and never really
older girl + younger guy. does that seem a little weird

^I went with a senior friend last year. It's really no big deal.

blondie...go with a group of friends. It's actually very commonplace to do that nowadays. It's what I'm doing. I MIGHT be going with a guy friend. MAYBE. But I think it would be more fun to go with my girlfriends.

Go, but don't spend the money. Don't get a limo. Buy your tux or your dress at a thrift shop (if you don't say anything, nobody will know). Get your parents to make a fancy dinner for you and a few friends at your house before the prom. If your parents are nice, they'll even dress up and serve.

^Yeah, I got my prom dress last year at a thrift store for $19...it was pretty great.

i actually had dinner served to us at prom, so we didn't eat beforehand.

also, i am a bit of a nonconformist (or maybe i'm just *** crazy) so i had the idea of going in a taxi - (everyone pulls up to the hyatt in a limo... and up pulls a taxi and my date and I get out. ohhh yeaa.) and wearing a white tux. (...and i get out. in a white tux. ohhh yeaa.)

turns out my administration is nazi and made us all take trolleys to avoid drinking issues, but hey, my good friend from another school actually used my idea. i wish i could have been there!

btw the trolleys sucked! it was raining that night, and they leaked water all over us. omfg and they are making us do it again this year!

i'm spending liek $375 on jr ball
$40 for the ticket
$60 for the limo (they got a stretch Hummer. I was reallllly mad because I hate them and think they're flashy and stupid and not classy at all, but I couldn't really do anything about it, and we have like 20 people, so yeah)
$20 for Hard Rock Cafe, after
$180 for the dress (I normally would never spend this much, except senior prom, but I swear this dress was perfect and I just could not let it goooo!)
$50 on shoes
$25 on nails

$80 dress.
$90 .. pay for prom?

buses which the school pays for
w00t!

whew...

$600 suit (including shirt, tie, etc.)
$200 for limo (14 person stretch H2.... between 8 ppl, 4 guys. we're splitting our 20 person group between 2 12-14 person limos. probably 8-10 ppl in mine. my dad's also probably gonna pay the deposit first.)
$100 for dinner for two
$50 for tickets (not bad eh?)

$20-40 for corsage

~$1000 in the end... good thing my dad's paying for it all! :)

wow..umm ima junior...prolly goin
gotta go ask someone tho..i gots someone in mind but who knows....ima whimp

I am definitely going to prom. And Blondie, you should, too. It doesn't mean you need to spend tons of $$ and find a super date.

I'm worried about getting a date. I had been planning to go with somebody, but now they are my ex boyfriend, so that'll never happen...all the guys I can think of who could ask me I think have other girls in mind to ask. I'm just too new to the market, so to speak.

And my mom and I are thinking of making my prom dress...it'll be tough, but I think it'd be fun. (That is, if we don't find a better dress.) I just can't believe that all the prom dresses are 300 dollars or above! :0

I'm jealous of all the juniors who have junior prom. We just have senior prom, so I'm psyched for it.

PS: My prom ticket is free! I sold a lot of coffee for our senior fundraiser. I'm going to use that money to make myself look pretty. :)

@Sligh_Anarchist:
My class is 38 people. You have to pay for prom dinner at the place where prom is held. I don't want to go because I know it'll be lame. Parents think they've paid already and think I'm be a snobby brat who hates my class by my anti-promism (it's not...it's just that I really don't want to go because of personal reasons that don't include classmates). They will force me to go because in a class of 38, it's hard to ignore the fact that 1 person is missing. Oh, did I also mention that my entire high school (9-12) goes to prom? Which is why I don't see prom as anything special...

@4390116:
Parents don't say I study too much...they say exactly the opposite. Coincidentally my prom is Friday between AP weeks. My AP's run Wed-Fri (week1) and Monday (PHYSICS!!!) of week 2. And I suck at Physics so I'll freak out and be like OMG I CANT GO TO PROM I FORGOT TO STUDY FOR AP PHYSICS I'LL GET A 1 :D

Last year though, I went and I had an awful time. I had a date who I liked as a friend, but he liked me as more than a friend so the whole night was him trying to make moves on me and me trying to avoid him...so awkward.

Similar situation happened to me last year. Except it was more complicated and dragged into early June. It ****ed me off a lot and I had a terrible time at prom so last year's bad experiences led to me not wanting to go this year...

Anyone have any good excuses in avoiding prom on May 9? Besides failing my AP Physics of course...but when worst comes to worst, failing AP Physics isn't so bad.

WARNING! The following advice is from an old, over-the-hill, grown-up, out-of-it adult person. Feel free to ignore. But...
Go to prom. Buy the class ring. Buy the yearbook. Go to graduation. Get the senior class T-shirt. No matter how stupid and pointless these things seem to you now, you will later be glad you did them.

^lol, i agree with Hunt...

I went junior year with a date who paid for everything.. this year i'm going with my boyfriend (date last year) and he's paying for everything...

You should go, it's like the epicenter of high school life.. its like you have to go.. it's senior year do EVERYTHING.. it's so much fun not to care anymore!

i got a prom dress today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its beautiful and perfect. i saw and and i was like. THATS IT.

also our group is renting this local trolley that drives around the historical district. it will take us from my friend who lives in the district's house, on a tour of the district for fun, then to the club where prom is.

^aww that trolley thing sounds really fun. i wish i lived in an interesting place with a historical district
