Pronunciation

Whenever I say Grinnell in real life, it sounds like I'm saying a very ugly word (akin to "grisel" (sp)). Do you pronounce Grinnell with emphasis on the first or second syllable? GRINN-ull or grinn-ELL?

Just wondering, maybe it's just me.

(I say it GRIN-ull, btw).

When I was listening to the podcasts at the Grinnell website, they pronounced it as Grinn-ELL. I used to say it as GRINN-ull, too.

When admissions rep visited my school, he said it like Grinn-ELL, and whenever my father (an alumni of Grinnell) talks about Grinnell, he also says Grinn-ELL

Its Grinn-ELL.
One way to always find out is to call the admissions office and see how they answer the phone.
But its Grinn-ELL - we visited there a couple years ago.

I always pronounced it a lil funny. In high school people knew I was going here, and one day when I wore a Grinnell shirt, they said, "OH! It's Grinnell?? I always thought it was Grunell or Grenell!" Earlier I even had a friends say, "What? Grendal has a College named after him??" Ha
