Proof that SAT essays prove nothing

You know, I thought my 12 on my essay was somewhat a stroke of luck, but if what you wrote can get an 11, then I'm pretty sure I can get consistent 12s...

I hope I got a 12 because I am in AP American Literature and have great writing abilities. I also have great vovabulary. I use words like ascendancy, mitigate, innocuous, prodigal, deride, rancor, listlessness, harbinger, capricious, and incongruous.

^^^ You might end up getting less than a 12 or 11 padding the essay with ALL those words.

Don't let them fool you.
SAT scorers are not really impress by how great your vocab is.

lol IF it's padding. I can think of ways of putting in awesome vocab without padding. That's because the right word just mysteriously poofs into my head! :D

obviously it is better than an 8 if he/she got an 11

^ graders are not "different"..

one gave a 5, one gave a 6... not very different to me :)

Wow - this really blows me away. Exposes the readers as frauds. Thanks for the post!

I lol'd....

Hey, I lol'd when I wrote it.

I did not use all of those words in one essay.

^ Lies. Now you're just trying to cover up your Freudian Slip.

Plus, for an AP Lit kid, it's a pity you can't even spell vocabulary. nods head horizontally.

I do use those words, but not in one essay. Not enough time to figure out where to put all of them.

Did you take AP Lang too?
Just wondering.

If yes, how'd you do?

I am truly amazed that one reader gave your essay a 6. You proved your point.

I just called up a thread entitled "Sample SAT 12 Essays" Check out the essay I wrote for the March 07 SAT. It on post 49. I received an 11. Now compare it with the essay in this thread!!!

^ I say bribes...
Or 30 secs in MS PAINT.

Yea.

Unlike most of you, I totally believe he got an 11. I've taken it three times and got 12's all three times. Here is the formula:

Put most of your effort into the intro

Use EVERY LAST INCH of the space provided

Use 8-10 "Hot SAT Vocab Words" (e.g. egregious, verbose, quizzical)

Use 1 personal anecdote (LIE at EVERY opportunity)

Quote a literary work or cite a historical event at least once

Honestly, if you manage to do those 5 things you are pretty much guaranteed at least a 10, but prob an 11 or 12. No joke.

This is from the online course, real readers did not score it.

This is the exact essay prompt I got....last may

Tyler, what are you talking about? Look at the screenshots.

bms, just follow #4 ^^

I stand corrected, though its odd to have posted it so long after the test.
