Some atrocious writers got 11s on the SAT essay while my best friend, who is an exceptional writer, never made it past an 8. He thinks it has a lot to do with the length of the essay...

Hopefully my readers never read any of the books I mentioned because the examples I included were HUGE stretches. I MEAN HUGE!

Haha :D Trust me, imccreadie's essay was much better than the one a boy at my school wrote. He wrote something along the lines of, "Technology is very important because it is technological and helps us live faster."

Your friend or someone you knew accomplished something... huge. GREAT.
Okay, then.

People who almost start taking credit for someone else's actions are irritating, don't ya think? Now I'm not going to mention any names (ahem, ee33ee... ahem) but yea. Shouldn't these people focus on their own studies instead of worrying about their friends?

It was just annoying because it sounded like you were bitter that he got an 11 with that essay when you may have gotten a lower score with a much better essay. I know that's what happened to me, but I can accept the stupidity of the SAT and how it's scored.

It's just somewhat difficult for me to believe that you don't find the whole situation even somewhat funny.

I am annoyed, yes. Don't deny that.
In fact in one of my former posts on this thread I even mentioned that I hate the OP. (Didn't mean that literally, btw).
It's just that I've been focusing so much on the SAT essay and only managed an 8 my first time. :(
This time hoping for a better score though.

Maybe you can tell me what you find funny about this? Is it because he wrote something completely different than what he believes in and the essay contradicts itself numerous times or something and still managed to get an 11?
I just think he's lucky the readers scored it an 11, or ... 30 seconds in MS Paint (jk!).

btw - you contradict yourself in the intro:

Modern society shouldn’t be criticized for being to materialistic. Pocessions tell a story about how successful a person has been in life. The more pocessions one has, the more successful and happier they appear. However, this should not be the case. I have met people throughout my life who prove that our society should be criticized for being materialistic.

But that must be a typo, because in the screenshot I see that you said SHOULD both times.

Despite the fact I can't stop laughing, I am also slightly irritated. My essay got a 7 and it's loads better than this. If I were grading, I would have given it a 7. Your transition from the intro to 1st made me cringe, and your syntax was really redundant. Also, there was so much BS it smelled lol.

If anything is to be learned from this, it is:

-Use transitions, even if it's repeating the next sentence
-Use a quote, or two. Doesn't matter what's in the quote as long as it's in there.
-Pick the good side, and use "feel-good" examples

rofl again though :P

gratz, thanks for making my day and proving how useless the SAT Essay is =)

I got an 8 too. I didn't really study for it though, and I wouldn't have thought this was legit unless I saw the pictures.

Getting an 11 for this essay was definitely a fluke though. I think if it had been graded on another day or if it was a different month, he would've gotten a very different score. Part of the reason it's funny is because of what you said, a lot of it was the presentation ("BTW, I'm an upper middle class WoW addict who's parents are engineers/financial consultants"), and the other part of it is because it reflects on how meaningless your essay score is and confirms my sentiments that the SATs are a pretty stupid way to measure college readiness or reasoning skills. Or whatever they want to measure.
