Proposed major

Hey guys..my name is "mike",,,im confused about the proposed major...it means UCSC might not accept my major? and what will happen if they dont accept? Please help....im transfering in this Fall...thx....

Basically from my understanding, its saying that you are planning to take classes for that major. Considering that we aren’t taking any classes more or less actually there in UCSC, its only listed at proposed. Plus, it might actually be because a lot of people switch their major a lot.

Don’t worry too much on the proposed part. Not a big thing.

oh…good…thx alot…lol…

If you are a transfer student, proposed major is just the major you applied as. You need to formally declare your major once you actually attend UCSC and you fulfill the requirements for your major’s declaration process.

yup…im transfer student…on MyUCSC portal,i put Health Science as my proposed major…that means for sure i get into UCSC as health science major???

You just need to get your advisor to formally declare you at summer orientation, or failing that, visit your department advisor during the fall.

You won’t be declaring at summer orientation. If you’re a transfer, the deadline to declare your major (if I recall correctly) is your 2nd quarter at UCSC. For some majors, it’s definitely better to declare in your first quarter, because some majors offer priority enrollment for their students (i.e. politics majors. priority enrollment is incredibly useful in getting the courses you want). Some majors don’t (for example, philosophy). Regardless, you won’t get priority enrollment in your proposed major your first quarter.
