I'm trying to decide between two colleges, one is an hour from home and the other is four hours. I kind of wanted to be closer to home because the other college is half way across the state.

I had a similar decision, I was deciding between a college 1 hour away and one almost 14 hours away. I went with the closer one. some benefits of being closer are it is way easier to get home if you need to, less expensive traveling, and not sure if this would apply to you but because my home & school are in the same area the same chain pharmacies and banks are in both places so i didn’t need to switch my prescriptions or get a new bank account, which was very helpful. Of course, there are many positives of going further away, such as being more independent from your parents and meeting a different kind of people (but you’ll do that with other students anyway!) i just wasn’t up for the challenge, but I don’t regret staying close to home!

I went to my state’s flagship which is 4 hours away from my home. I’d say pros of this distance would be definitely be more independence & having new experiences/meeting new people. I’ve certainly done, seen, met things/people I would have never thought I’d encounter back home.

Thanks to both of you. I think either school would benefit me socially.
