Pros and cons of housing..

Initially i was going to stay with my cousin who is living in new york atm, but my parents said I could choose to live in the residential colleges if i wanted to. What are the pros and cons staying in a residential college?

I've always used a single room so i might be a little uncomfortable rooming with a different person ><

Also, I've already sent the 300 dollar deposit, but if I wanted housing how should i let them know? should i send 200 dollars with a letter saying that i actually DO want housing?

thanks in advance for ur answers

I'd really recommend living in housing freshman year. It's how you'll meet people and you'll definitely have a different experience if you're commuting. Not that it's impossible but it's not the same. Also, if you don't take housing freshman year, it's difficult to get in after that. You'll be at the bottom of the housing lottery if you do that. And no, you can't get a single room freshman year.
