Prospective class of 2012-ers:

duckatpe, I'm with you on that one. There's no way I could apply early anywhere, I'd always be second-guessing myself and stuff, and besides, at this point, I still don't really know what I want in a school, so I figure it I haven't figured that out by now, I don't want to risk anything by applying early.

Not my first choice but yeah I like it

I'm thinking of applying to Princeton, but I'm actually kind of hesitant. For some reason when I think "Princeton" I think of "prep prep prep prep".... I haven't visited the campus yet (will this early summer) but I can't help thinking that Princeton is a cold, preppy, arrogant, unfriendly place. Most likely I could not be more wrong on this.
Does anyone else feel the same way too?
I'll decide whether I'm actually going to apply or not after I actually visit the place. Campus feel is a HUGE factor for me.

Hi!! Me too!! I really really really want to apply to Princeton!!! and get in... but it seems like a far fetched dream right now...

Slee00, I thought the same thing before I visited. After talking to some graduates from my high school who go to Princeton and actually going there a few times I don't think its true at all. Its a given that there will always be some of snobby arrogant people where ever you go, and thats true at Pton, but for the most part people were actually really nice on campus. The people who go there now say the same thing, they've encountered some of those people, but overall everyone is down to earth.

Thanks thatdude :) that makes sense- or else Princeton wouldn't be as popular as it is!

Princeton got rid of ED? I thought that it was observing Harvard for a few years and then deciding.

Yeah 1990ers we are (hopefully) bringing the party to Princeton

I'm already freaking out, to be honest.
I have a close friend in the class of '10, and I went to visit them to get a feel for campus, and let me tell you. It was amazing.

Slee00, really and truly, the people I spent time with up there were so interesting and genuine and dedicated, and of all the Ivies I've visited (well, only HYP at this point), the atmosphere and the campus are the most enticing. To me, it felt like a remarkable place, like walking on the paths around campus you were almost walking through history, you could be history.

I might be applying, although, very Voldermort-esqe, I refer to it as That-One-School-I-Have-No-Chance-At. It kind of scares me.

PS- Where else do we want to apply, just to see a comparison.
I'll start:

UofChicago (1st choice)
Princeton
Georgetown
Swarthmore
Columbia
and some more match/safety schools

Do you think Princeton's getting rid of ED has anything at all to do with the fact that we will be the largest graduating class?

I think it has to do more with the whole not-being-fair-to-everyone thing that everyone's been citing lately, and a bit of peer pressure. ;)

Anyways, for the colleges I'm applying to.

University of Michigan (I'm in-state and applying early next September- I should know whether I'm in by mid-October. It's nice to have a safety with rolling admissions.)

Early Action:
MIT
Notre Dame (legacy)
UChicago

Regular:
Princeton

I don't know about the early decision decision.

But as for where I'm applying,

Princeton (1st choice, obviously)
Harvard
Yale (maybe)
Swarthmore
Wake Forest (for my parents)
Duke (for my parents)
and maybe either Columbia or NYU

I'm applying! I have no idea what my chances are. Admission is such a crapshoot. But going to Princeton would be so amazing!

i'm applying to princeton, yale, dartmouth, cornell and a couple safety schools.
I have no idea how i am going to get in, but i'm applying. I'll know a lot more about what kind of chances i have once the dreaded sat and subject tests are done.

Princeton is my first choice as well.

Yeah, the SAT IIs are going to be a pain. Which ones are you guys taking?

Princeton is probably my first choice too. I like Yale a lot though too (if I go to Princeton though I guess I'll have to revise that preference... haha)

Hi! I'm applying to Princeton too, but probably early action at Yale. Also looking at UChicago, Stanford, Brown and some others.

Princeton is among my top three. I like mostly the undergraduate focused schools with small to medium enrollments. Plus (please no harassing posts) I'm a fourth generation legacy. Now before you judge, my family's current income puts us below the poverty line so I don't have any of the donor advantage. I must say I'm glad they got rid of ED in many respects and hope some other schools follow suit to make a meaningful stand against elitism, even if it comes at my detriment.
