After several mailings from the school, I am beginning to consider Emory. For someone particularly interested in investment banking/consulting, how does Goizeuta stack up? How's the job placement, and do the IB's recruit here? I dunno if this is a little off base, but is Emory considerably easier to get in than other comparable schools? 37% admit rate from what I understand?

I don't much about the business school. What I do know is that the graduate B-School is ranked 18th in the nation by US News.

For undergraduate business schools, Emory is ranked 5th by Business Week and somewhere in the top twenty by US News. (I'm not sure what the exact rating is for US News, though it is lower than Business Week). A good number of Emory B-school alums work in NYC.

To address the admit rate of 37%, that stat was from two years ago; the class of 2010 had an admit rate in the low 30s.. I forget the exact number. With this said, I personally think admit rates are deceiving. For example, UChicago has an admit rate that historically has hovered around 40%, yet this is still recognized as one of the best academic institutions in the country. How do this happen? Their pool of applicants is unusually strong overall -- it's self selected. Theoretically, Emory could have a 100% acceptance rate and it'd have the exact same students with the exact same quality. There are more telling statistics than admit rate. (test scores)

the previous poster was correct about the current rankings of emory's b school. fifth in one mag and then the graduate school is ranked 18th in us news. there is recruiting to wall street and the like but it is not comprable to somewhere like stern or wharton (but then again almost no schools are). the acceptance rate for emory is not really any greater than the schools that surround it. if you go by us new, vandy and notre dame both have only slightly lower rates ( emory's this past year was 31% while vandy and ND were in the high 20s if i remember correctly). by self selecting we mean that the people who choose to apply to emory are all highly motivated and most truly want the emory experience. emory is a great place and i hope you apply in a few months.

I wouldn't say Emory students are necessarily very self selective. Definitely not any more so than any other top 25 school, probably even less. Self selectivity at Emory is nothing like it is at Chicago, and that is just due to the atmosphere of the two schools.

Ks, I don't mean to imply that Emory isn't hard to get into, but it is probably easier than most of the ivies, Duke, etc. You still have to be a top student with great ecs/stats to get in though, and demonstrating interest is very important to Emory.
