Casey: Thank you for such a supportive post. Honestly, we have heard nothing but terrific things about UW. I can't wait to visit in two weeks. I for one have always loved visiting Seattle. Did your kids find the school too big? My d is coming from a small private school but longs to attend a larger college.

bmilstead- That is SO funny. And, I'm sure that older son meant every word of it. Really, if S arrives home for the holidays filled with Husky enthusiasm (and I'm betting he will), the best gift you could give him might be a bodyguard to get him thru the holidays at home! Last time I visited Seattle, my D was sporting a purple T-shirt that simply said "Beat Oregon" on the front. The back said "Nothing else matters". I loved it. Good luck with that little....."situation".

My D and friends (young alum now) are already scheming an RV caravan to get down to the Oregon game. They're considering asking the National Guard to go with them...!

socalmama-I'm hoping that you get a beautiful weekend for your visit to the northwest. It's true--there is no place prettier than Seattle when the sun is out--and I mean that. Makes people downright giddy. Just thinking about spring and the cherry blossoms around campus still makes me feel good!
I have to say that neither of my kids ever felt that the school was too big. Sure, there were moments that first year that there were touches of missing "home", but I was surprised how fast they began to see Seattle and their friends there as their new "home". I'm sure you have heard this before, but I truly think that the best way to make a large school feel comfortable is to find a niche--a sport, club, activity-something to bond to. Both my kids went thru the Greek system. D was enthusiastic, S was very tentative about it. And now, in hindsight, I believe that they would both say it was the best thing they ever did. Immediate home, security, and friends. Maybe it isn't for everyone, but I think it's for a lot more people than you realize. Both made friends for life. Many of them. Not sure how or why it works that way...but it does.
If not Greek, find something else to make yours. It may take awhile, but I think that is important. Good luck.

I haven't read through this thread thoroughly, but I'm assuming I live the farthest from Washington State. I'm currently in Austria, but am a Canadian citizen born in the Philippines. I applied to the Physiology major at U of W (Seattle--which I've visited), but not the Honors program. I'm an IB student at an American International School; I'd prefer not to go over my stats right now. Does anyone know of the deadline for decisions to be sent out? I've received three letters from American colleges already, with three (including U of W) more pending notice. I'd appreciate it. Cheers.

No you don't :P
I live in Romania and I would love to attend the UW, but right now I'm still waiting for the financial aid package.

You win, jeez.

Do you mind telling me when you got your decision (I'm assuming you have, since your waiting for a financial aid package)? Much appreciated, again. :)

Canuck, decisions are sent out until April 15th. Since you are an international student, there may certain factors that will prolong notifying you. But for now, you still have time.

@socalmama, I assure that you it would be a poor decision to make the choice at the discretion of how weather is.

I got my decision on February 4th. i*

I'm from Portland, OR too! I'm interested in going to UW for the excellent public health program. I'm also consider the other OSU (oregon state) because I'm in the honors there (kinda similar to that other person) but.. geh I don't know... picking colleges is harder than applying... I hope Incognito is not my roommate.

im from hawaii. this school was my first choice so im happy!

woah, i'm from Hawaii too. Which island are you from?

im from oahu. you from maui?

I applied from Arizona and was serious about UW being a safety. However, now that I got into Dartmouth, I've kind of pushed it away.

:D I would totally go to UW over UArizona any day of the week.
