Prospective transfer for spring 2015, please chance me!

Currently a student at a large, fairly competitive (smith and my school have similar acceptance rates for freshman), urban, private school. Just finished freshman year and with a summer course will have a solid 3.4 gpa. I applied to smith for fall admission but was denied. When I spoke to admissions they said one of the deciding factors was my shoddy high school record (I had health problems, didn't detail them in applications, I will this time.)

HS graduating gpa:3.16
Honor roll every quarter during 11th and 12th grade
Certificate of meritous service upon graduation
Certificate of merit upon graduation (graduated with honors)

Current college gpa with 32 credits:3.40 (.2 points higher than application last time)
I took a junior (300) level course and earned an A

I have excellent extra curriculars/volunteer work and a very good essay
3 recommendations from professors of classes I earned A's in (one is a smith alum)

Smith is my dream school, do you think applying for a second time is worth it? I didn't realize high school had such an impact on transfer admissions so I didn't specify the honors/awards I won. Any recommendations/suggestions are welcome!

I think applying for a second time is absolutely worth it! I was accepted as a transfer for the fall, and I also had a spotty high school record due to health issues. I explained them in my application, so I suppose it made a difference. If you didn’t do an interview before, I definitely suggest doing one this time around. I couldn’t make it to campus, but I had one with an alumna in my area and it gave me the opportunity to present myself as more than just a few sheets of paper, and it also gave me the chance to explain what happened in high school. I’m coming from a non-competitive community college, so if I was accepted, I definitely think you have a chance. You seem really passionate, and I think that counts for a lot. Good luck!
