My grades weren't good freshman year at all. I failed a class, took it the second time it and got a C. I had a hard time adjusting from high school to college and my overall GPA for the year was a 2.3. I know I messed up pretty bad but if I got myself together and got straight As for my sophomore year (I'm planning to transfer to PSU my junior year) then will I be okay? I also can get good letters of recommendation that explains my low GPA and all that. Any feedback will help. thanks!

Hey, I’m a succesful transfer student to UP (from a college in reading, pa) as a junior this fall!
First off, you don’t need any letter’s of recommendation. However, there -might- be a box in the online application to explain your “Educational gap” or something. I know that doesn’t really apply since you were still at a college, but you might be able to briefly explain in there.
Next, if you got straight A’s that’d be really impressive to anyone I think (I’d be jealous!), hahaha. But if you don’t get that I wouldn’t really sweat it…I’d check out your particular college’s site (for example, Eberly College of Science) to see any specific requirements for gpa. Anyway, I had a 3.787 cumulative gpa for the first two years, but I don’t know how that helps provide a basis or anything.

This is a really helpful site they just put together.

Good luck! It was a lot of work and waiting for me for the transfer process, but I’m SO excited and it was definitely worth it!

Just found out you need a 2.5 gpa to transfer to UP. Also, here’s the requirements by major/college (for 4-year degrees). You might need to make sure you have taken certain classes as well.
