Provisional Admit

I have a few questions, my first one is that when I applied to Cal Poly Pomona, I stated that I plan to major in Computer Engineering, but when I checked my status and it changed to “Provisional Admit” it changed to Undeclared Undergraduate, is this normal? Also, I have a problem right now where my AP Chemistry grade is down the drain (I have been struggling all year even with help) and I’m pretty sure I’m going to end up with a D for the year. I have already took regular Chemistry and Physics (double science) during my Junior Year and passed with a B in both. I’m from out-of-state so I’m new to the whole “a-g” thing. Also, the rest of my classes are A’s and B’s so AP Chemistry is the only class I’m really having problems with. I’m really scared that my application will be rescinded since Cal Poly Pomona is one of my top choices. Any tips?

@kevtruong115 The fact the it changed to Undergraduate Undeclared means you have to fulfill more requirements until it says you become a Computer Engineering major. That typically won’t happen until your sophomore or junior year in college. That goes for any university you attend. As for the Chem class, I would say give it your all so you don’t leave them with any doubts. I am sure you will be fine and be successful in all you do :)

@babyface11 Thanks! But I’m about 95% sure I’m going to get a D for the year, and I’m going paranoid right now on my application being rescinded.

Everyone is provisionally admitted until they see your final high school transcript and they see that you passed all of your A-G classes satisfactorily with at least a C. Since this AP Chemistry is in addition to the 2 years of science you have already passed successfully, you will probably be ok, unless you are using it as one of your electives.

Regarding your major, you were not admitted into your major, but now you are admitted into Undeclared, so you will have until the end of your third quarter to declare your preferred academic major. Most likely you will be taking general ed classes, but you can also follow the recommended curriculum for computer engineering.
