PSAE (Illinois) and ACT

Just got this message from our principal -

*Important Information for students taking the PSAE / ACT: Beginning this year with the Class of 2013, students taking the PSAE will no longer take the ACT Writing section. Students seeking admission to universities and colleges that require a writing score (including University of Illinois and many other schools) must take the writing section of the ACT or SAT on a national test date. Students are encouraged to check with their specific colleges for requirements.

I encourage all Illinois students to confirm if this is also the case for their high schools. It essentially makes the April ACT useless for college aps. Watch the overall state ACT scores plummet as students no longer take this sitting seriously.

He is just repeating a state board directive that was actually released July 11 soon after the state determined the amount of money the Illinois Board of Education would have for the fiscal year that began July 1. It is a part of the continuing political battle over funding with the state slashing the amount given because the state is broke and the board 's reacting by slashing many things it knows are actually needed while doing nothing to shrink its own overblown bureacracy. The board wants more citizens angry so they will write their legislators. Parents should be writing in anger to both legislators and the board because they are equally guilty.
