PSAT - Average improvement from Soph to Jr?

187 to a 240. Practice definitely helps, more for acclimatization than anything else.

^^lol. I think you mean a 40 point increase. Was that in your math section? jk That’s great.

I’m not sure about the sophomore to junior increase because currently I’m a sophomore. However, I think one academic year, prep or not, makes a huge difference. I went from 194 PSAT freshman year to 224 PSAT sophomore year with absolutely no prep for either year. I would assume the increase from sophomore to junior year would be considerable as well.

I know this is an old thread…thought I would bump it up to see if there were any new thoughts of the subject as my son prepares for his junior year PSAT.

Would have been ok to start a new thread on this… some may look at the date on page 1 and not answer…because they know it 4 years old. like I almost did.

I was going to answer about someone mentioning that the sophomore is a small percentage… etc… but many districts are taking it starting in their freshman year. Not just a handful of students… and this may have changed nationwide as well. My dd14’s school system is a predominantly URM district… most don’t go off to college… many drop out d/t psych social issues…

To answer your question… she went up 18-20 points…I don’t remember her exact #'s…she is now a junior/taking it 10/17

In FL, all students take the PSAT for free in 10th grade. It’s paid for by the state. If you want your student to take it in 11th grade there is a fee and you have to sign up with your school to be included. The fee for this year is $15.

So at least in FL, I’m sure the group taking it is MUCH larger in 10th grade than in 11th where it is optional.

In New Haven, its actually free as well… all 3 years… and now that I think of it, my good friend is an assistant principal @ an arts magnet middle school… and her 8th graders take it also… not sure if this is unique to that school or not…

Mines:

Freshman PSAT (193)
Sophmore PSAT (214)
Sophmore SAt in March (2250)
Junior PSAT (TBA).

I did prep a crap load in 8th grade to get my freshman PSAT score.
I didn’t do anything between sohpmore and freshman year.

woooowwwww… really? i bet your next sitting is 2400. why do you guys waste your middle school years studying for the sat???
